Redlight Redlight once ran Lagunitas Hop Stoopid through the Randall. I’m not sure what type of hops they used, but I can tell you with utmost certainty that it was NOT a gimmick, as that already massively hopped beer was like pure alpha acid and resin by the end of the night.

This was done at The Blind Tiger a while back. Maybe some of the NY’ers who had some can comment on the effects.
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA Simple Thai (Randall filled with Lemongrass)
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA Mint Julep (Randall filled with Mint & Bourbon balls)
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA Summer Fresco (Randall filled with Melon & asst. fruits)
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA Northern Winter (Randall filled with Pine & Spruce)
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA Italian Seasoning (Randall filled roasted Pine Nuts & Dried Oregano)
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA Hoppy Giant (Randall filled with Warrior & Columbus hops)

I’ve enjoyed 90 Minute through the Randall and I’ve enjoyed Bootlegger’s Rye IPA through the "Hopinator" I enjoyed both beers far better after passing through the chamber of hops. So while it may be a gimmick, it is a great one.

I’ve had several with varying degrees of success. Some of the best are the ones where something besides hops or in addition to hops was used.
So would you say that using a Randall could add bitterness?

I put everything BUT hops in mine. Fruit, bourbon soaked wood chips, jerkey, vanilla beans, coffee beans etc. Hops give it a bit of nose, but other items make for a good time.
