I like the new skin and the style but there is always an e-mail in my inbox now. Dang I’m popular.

Yes they need to do something about that. I know the new BM is still the pink envelope with hearts but as it is now, it seems like you always have an unread one.

This is an improvement on the 2000 edition, but nothing compared to the layouts between 2002 and now - after a quick look through the wayback machine. This shade of white can’t be serious right?

I like that in 2000 this was the RB Top 10 Beers:

Top 10 Rated Beers (Must have 5 ratings or more)
Beer Name Average Rating Rate Count
Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock 4.58 8
Rogue Mocha Porter 4.39 7
Rogue Shakespeare Stout 4.39 8
Guinness draft 4.38 32
Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout 4.37 6
Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout 4.35 6
Anchor Brewing Company Porter 4.28 9
Guinness Draught (can) 4.27 30
Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout 4.27 12
Fuller’s ESB 4.26 7

And looK at those rate counts!

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Design was fine. There are technical issues (site working slow at times) that should be addressed, rather than screwing with the design.

I’m going with this.

Yip, struggling to see the benefits of the new design yet: hopefully all will become clear once everything has been ’changed/altered’.

I fear that this will be it. It seems that every major change on RB in the past few years has promised "more to come," but nothing further ever happens. Ratebeer has become a site of unfinished features, half-implemented designs, and lazily implemented hacks to patch aging architectural instabilities.

To put it quite frankly, there is no light at the end of the tunnel with the current owner. Ratebeer today is a decidedly worse site than it was 5 years ago, be it in functionality, design, reliability, or what little remains of the community (not that the people here are bad, just that there is practically no community left). The site has been thoroughly trounced by all of its competitors, both old and new, be it BA, Untappd, various subreddits, or any of those trading forums. We still have the best database, and we probably always will.

I do hope that one day, Joe will realize that what is best for the future of Ratebeer is to sell it to someone who will properly maintain and grow the site and the brand. The database deserves a better website.
