Yes, it looks as though The Grove is more or less on the way down towards The Star Inn. May do both, depends on what time we make it up from Derby.
That week is going to be a seriously large scooping event for me, just started to get properly excited about it, now I’m booking hotels/trains/looking up maps of pubs.

right, just been playing catch-up with the messages
so, to cover various points:
Thursday is definitely Huddersfield. Trains are hourly at xx36 direct, I will probably get the 1636, though I may bunk off early for the 1536. If going straight to Star, best move is get off at Lockwood (penultimate station), same walking distance as from Hudds, but there’s a decent chippy on the way. If going into Hudds, the Kings Head/Station Tavern at the east end of platform 1 is worth a look too
Sunday, I personally prefer the idea of upping the bottle quota per person. Anyone concerned with what they can bring on plane, don’t forget the Grove has an off-sales license so any of the list available to bring home (if anyone wants to buy the Thornbridge Alliance beers I won’t grumble!)
check out www.scoopergen.co.uk/googlemaps.htm - this has google maps for Sheffield, Hudds and Manc
cheers

Thanks Dave, I had completely forgotten about the pub on the station, definitely want to go there, just because I can and also I’ve never been to a pub on a platform before, it is just so civilised waiting for your train and having a pint.
I’ve still not had the Alliance Madeira cask, so I don’t mind buying a bottle of that from the Grove.
And also I had completely forgotten about the maps on Scoopergen as well.
Just one more question at the moment, the Star Inn website says it doesn’t open until later on a Thursday, does it open earlier/all day for beer festivals?

Hello everyone
With the help of thewolf I was able to decode the beer list. Thanks René! I agree with bringing some more beers for the grand tasting on sunday. thewolf asked for Schwelmer Bernstein bock and I will probably be able to bring that one. I’m planning a last minute visit to De Molen to get some more of the sometimes magic liquid from that brewery.
I have a bottle of Molen Mout & Mokka at home and I’ll bring it to Sheffield (Nightfall’s wish list).
Anyone interested in Augustiner Maximator? Took some bottles with me on my way back from Tirol.

oops, sorry, my mistake, think it is still 5 during fest - I don’t know as I never get there before 5!
If I’m on the 1536 I might do quick stops at Station Tavern & Grove first, if I’m on 1636 it’ll be stright to Star

This should be a great event, as Ian says Sheffield isn’t the worst place in the world for real ale pubs so I am sure there will be the opportunity for plenty of extra rates aside from the tasting itself!
Sadly I can’t make the Thursday trip to Huddersfield and looking at the Grove website it looks an impressive selection there. I can always take a look in Booths supermarket for bottles but I’m not sure how rare they will be for us all, would just be pot luck whatever is in the store at the time really so if there are any rarer bottles at the Grove I’d be happy to pay for a few of those instead and settle up with anyone who could pick them up when I turn up on the Friday or Sunday (hoping to do the Manchester part on Saturday too if I can but not 100% on that one)

Well, there are 4 within 20 miles of Huddersfield to choose from including the 2 at Huddersfield itself.
You lot are going to be withered by the amount of decent cask ale available in Yorkshire - one of the greatest beer regions of the world now IMO with much more variety then, for example, Franconia.
