I had completely forgotten about the pub on the station, definitely want to go there, just because I can and also I’ve never been to a pub on a platform before, it is just so civilised waiting for your train and having a pint.

Well, there are 4 within 20 miles of Huddersfield to choose from including the 2 at Huddersfield itself.

You lot are going to be withered by the amount of decent cask ale available in Yorkshire - one of the greatest beer regions of the world now IMO with much more variety then, for example, Franconia.

If I can get to do Stalybridge and Dewsbury, then I will. Not sure how yet in terms of time.

And yes, I have a feeling that once I have been, I’ll never want to leave. May even start looking at doing regular weekend visits to the north as rail ticket prices did not seem too prohibative (£24 quid for a single from Sheffield to Ashford - £21 single up to Derby from deepest Kent).

And I can’t wait to try this cheap beer, Haddonsman keeps boasting about.........

Don’t go expecting quaint cottage pubs with flowers around the door and beer poured from foaming jugs or you’ll be disappointed like Mr Tork was!!!

I used to travel all over the UK in search of scoops, don’t think there are many places I didn’t get to. I know Belgium is easier to get to from Kent (I used to live there so have some knowledge on that!) but you really should explore the UK more; I’m not trying to be patronising, but missing out on the North like a lot of southern RB people do is like going to Belgium and only drinking Leffe.

As I say to everyone - there’s more to the UK than London. Lots more.

Alrighty

Im going to be arriving around as i said, but im staying with Dave and dont think that taking my luggage to wherever that beer fest is is a good idea, therefore i’ll be hitting some boozers in Sheffield. Is anyone else arriving a bit later and going to be about?

Chin chin

If Derby, Sheffield, Huddersfield and Manchester are anything like as good as Liverpool, where I was last weekend, (and I’m expecting them to be as good if not better) then I will be more than happy. 60 German beers in the Ship & Mitre, Vernon Arms reopened with the utterly brilliant Boggart Rumporter and Brooklyner Schneider Hopfen Weisse on at The Thomas Rigby.

Also now put my beers on Rene’s spreadsheet.

I have 2 bottles unlabelled of the Thornbridge Halcyon that the brewers brought down to the do at The Rake. Anyone interested if I bring a bottle or will we get Halcyon while we are up there????

There’s going to be quite a few less of us than have been at previous summer gathering, so therefiore there going to be alot less beer. Unless we all bring a few more beers each(which seems like a good idea), or else we plan to have a good jolly in the(or a few) boozer(s) after the tasting.

Any thoughts on this one? Im more than happy to bring like 7 different beers rather then the usual 4ish, even if some of them are things that people have had before but are like top 50 beers that people are hot on.

now then

as I said before, I personally favour upping the quota per person. the only restriction we have from the pub is that we need to vacate the room by 7pm.

So I suggest get there for noon, have lunch about 1.30, then what’s people’s thoughts for dinner? we can either get the pub to feed us again either in the room before 7, or we could go down to the bar for food and more draft beer afterwards. or we could go on for a ruby afterwards? don’t think any of the pubs do food on a Sunday normally, so Harlequin is the only option for pub food.

so far we look like having 16 people Sunday, so say 8 beers each = 128 to go at.

so far there are 4 people signed up who have not told me what days they’re attending - Phil, Reakt, Grove, Hildigoltur - so potentially 20 people

let me know your thoughts

I’d say: 8 beers each, taste until 6.30 PM or so, and then have some pub food and draft beer @ the bar if we have the energy left.

Definitely looking forward! cheers!thumbs up

Unit due in to Sheffield Midland at 1206 on the Sunday so should be with you for 1220 or so, can’t do it any earlier on a Sunday as no unit before 9am on my connecting Chester line but go with your 12.00 start if it fits in with the majority decision and I’ll just join people later on if anyone is pub crawling.
Will scour the local shops for 8 good beers but can always pay someone for some Eastern European winners from the Grove if they have any baggage space left, I know many of you will be drinking that place dry on the Thursday! cheers!

have a look at Grove list and let me know what you want - I’ll be there on the Thursday, and probably tomoro as well so can always store them in Harlequin cellar...
