uick summary: On Friday night, we suggest you stay at or near the Motel 6 in Hotel Circle (619) 296-1612, and on Saturday night, at or near the Motel 6 in Carlsbad (760) 434-7135.
Started in another thread, here are some suggestions that will hopefully prove useful to out-of-towners looking for room accommodations on their stay.
FRIDAY NIGHT
I have 15 rooms at the Motel 6 - Hotel Circle currently under my name, ready to be snatched up by any interested RateBeerians. This hotel is nestled smack dab in the middle of a bunch of places we’ll be on Friday - 5 minutes from Toronado, 7 minutes from O’Brien’s, 10 minutes from the Airport, and 7 minutes from Downtown San Diego. All 15 rooms are non-smoking, 2-bed rooms with 2 double size beds. The flat charge for each room is $95.99 for 2 adults, with an additional $6 charge per extra person staying in the room (You tell them how many you’re going to have). With the exorbitant 12.5% tax, the total comes to $107.99 for two adults in the room, for the night.

To book a room, do this:
1) Call that number and give them my name (Chris Quiroga) to have them look up the room block,
2) Tell them what type of room you want and how many people will be in your group, and
3) MOST IMPORTANTLY, give them your credit card information in order to guarantee the reservation.
They won’t actually charge your card, and you can pay with whatever means you please when you show up, but you’ll need to give a credit card by phone in order to guarantee the room in your name. If you don’t guarantee it, they could release the room to anyone if you don’t check in by a certain time that day.
If the rooms are not snatched up by July 25th, they’re going to be released back to the public. If all 15 rooms get guaranteed before that date, they said they DO have additional rooms available as of right now. But I could only reserve the 15, for the moment, without plopping everything on my personal credit card.
SATURDAY NIGHT
I have 17 rooms at the Motel 6 - Carlsbad currently under my name. 9 2-bed rooms (double beds) and 8 1-bed rooms (queen beds). The flat charge for each room is $75.99 (no matter which type of room), with an additional $6 charge per extra person staying in the room (You tell them how many you’re going to have). There’s tax on top, but I didn’t get a final total.

To book a room, just follow the same instructions above. I booked ALL of the remaining 2-bed, non-smoking rooms, so if these reservations get guaranteed, your next-best options might be 1-bed rooms or smoking. Or some place else close by.
These are some of the cheapest, reasonably clean and tidy rooms we could find in places close to the areas we will be visiting. You could certainly find cheaper places (like hostels, or some dingier motels), and you could certainly find nicer places (like even the Extended StayAmericas that are right near each of these Motel 6’s. But these places offer a good price and good accommodations for those of us who will not be ultra-selective, but who also don’t want to slum it up. So some of the transportation routing (more on that very soon) will no doubt go through (or very near) these two Motel 6’s. If you’re not staying AT one or both of these places, please plan accordingly.

Yup. The itinerary is still intact. I just spoke with Tom from O’Brien’s yesterday, and he said they open at 11 AM and would like us to get food orders in (for lunch) between 11 and 12, ideally (to clash as little as possible with the regular lunch rush on Fridays, which strikes at around 12:15 or so). And he’ll let us sit on the patio and start drinking beers as early as 10:30 AM, if we’d like. I’m thinking we’d like.

Since O’Brien’s is the first stop, and people are undoubtedly going to be coming in throughout the day at different times, we will in all likelihood just have everyone meet up AT O’Brien’s, which means people would have to get there on their own. It starts at 10:30 AM, then ends around 2:00 PM or so. At that point, we’ll likely have transportation to take us from O’Brien’s to AleSmith, then to Ballast Point, and then to North Park for the Pub Crawl.
DURING the Pub Crawl, it should be very easy to get from one place to another, as Ritual Tavern, The Linkery, and Toronado are all literally within 2-3 blocks of one another. Hamilton’s is about 2 miles down the same street from those places, but if you don’t want to walk or cab it, there’s a bus that runs up and down 30th Street ($2.25 exact change for the fare, or $5 flat rate for an all-day pass; the bus runs every 30 minutes until 1 AM). If you’re going to take public transit from Hotel Circle to get to O’Brien’s, a $5 all-day pass wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
At the end of the Pub Crawl, people should take cabs in small groups back to the hotel whenever they decide to cash in for the night (again, I’m sure people will have different plans for what time they want to call it a night, but Toronado and Hamilton’s are both open until 2 AM). Cab fare for that distance should be pretty cheap, and Hotel Circle is like 5-10 minutes from North Park (5 miles away).
This is the most reasonable way to keep our group travel costs down, and to retain the flexibility we’ll need for the large group with people coming and going at different times.
More on all of this in a big update a few of us are putting together with a lot more specifics, hopefully within the next couple of days.

By the way, the 30th Street bus is the #2 bus, and the printable schedule for it can be found here:

Anybody know the hours on Toronado? I have been unable to find them. Are they open until 2am every day? Opening times?

Toronado is required to close at midnight due to their liquor license (brings me back to the days at Liar’s Club in Mission Beach)! Not sure exactly what time they open, but i’ve been there drinking as early as noon on the weekends so...
