After reading about the West Midlands crew finding new Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Venutian beers in various shops, I thought I would check out Ashford’s one and only "International" shop. It’s only a 3 minute detour from the railway station and I hadn’t been in about 2 years. |
we’ve plenty of similar shops here, but unfortunately they’re all but alcohol "free" due to archaic licensing system |
Welcome to the club Ian. |

I might have to take another trip round Lincolns numerous European shops. A job for next Saturday. |
Originally posted by harrisoni I have been to Brasov, Romania. Ursus is the latin for bear so play around on that theme ? |
Originally posted by harrisoni Its a pale lager. They call it Ursus Ciucas, it is brewed in Brasov. Still not had that one. |
I’m jealous. I’m sure most/all of those beers are available round London but I’ve not so far found anywhere local to me that has a wide range of international stuff from different countries. I’m guessing that, because there are so many more people in London, the "international" shops tend to be more specialised towards particular nationalties. All I’ve really found in my neck of the woods are the standard Polish beers. There are quite a number of Brazilian shops but they have not been happy hunting grounds. |
The two best shops I have found are WB Stores in West Bromwich which I have been using for about 4 or 5 years now and a shop called Deya in Burton which is great for Lithuanian and Latvian beers. I really need to enter it on the database. |
