I love Izakaya fare, especially some of the new hip ones in LA. But a sake brewpub? Interesting. Hopefully outsourcing the rice won’t be too costly with the recent rise in subsidies.
I’m wondering who they brought in to brew? Sake isn’t like making beer.

It looks like the owner is the same as the Herkimer a few doors down. Maybe they expanded their horizons... I think BDR and I will try it this weekend.

I have heard that other breweries may try sake as well. Not a bad idea, especially now with the yen soaring through the roof.

True. Import Japanese sake is crazy expensive, but the facilities and hands-on you need with brewing sake is WAY different than beer. Koji adds a whole new element, along with the much more intensive filtering/pressing/pasteurizing procedure compared to usual brewpubs.
BDR and I went there last night. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised. I still don’t "get" sake all that well, but I certainly enjoyed it. The Nama Nigori in particular was very good.
