his sounds like a good idea but would it work?

Here’s the scenario...

I want to find out what went over very well at Noogfest. So I can look at individuals but it would be better if I got all the ratings from that metro. I would select it on the map and look at the recent ratings.

Alternatively (additionally?), it might be nice to see a list of recently rated beers from that metro region sorted by avg rating, descending.

It wouldn’t be perfect at all - people enter ratings at different times and non-Noogers would be be entering ratings - but would it work enough to be effective?

Also for large festivals, obviously people from out of town would be there. We could grab people entering ratings from the area (by IP address) but many people would be returning home to enter ratings as well.

Thoughts?

Skeptical would be a mild way of describing my feelings on the matter.

...Sorry to be a downer, maybe I just feel like I would never much use the feature?

I seldom look at the ratings of others. I don’t think I’d use the feature. 7/2/2009 8:51:18 PM

Feeling the same way, but actually I would use the feature if it worked.

I just doubt it will work.

Take Noogfest as an example. To start, not everyone was in the Tennessee local so you’re taking out half the people. Next, while a couple ratings have gone up within a week after, I probably won’t get to mine for a month.

Now, if you just want to do a "What has Tennessee rated?" sort of feature, that could be kind of interesting. It would be a nice way around the 20 person limit buddy list.

Maybe we could just up the buddy list instead?

ok ok... how about - is there anything I can do to make it easier to spot beers of interest?

new most wanted beers?
new beers by top brewers?
top regional beers, last 90 days?

Maybe a blog page for each metro forum where the users could upload and update information on what’s new in the area? I know in the NY metro, there are monthly threads started to discuss what new beers are available and where they can be obtained.

This is more about putting the information in a place on the site that I look at regularly than anything else. If it is buried on the people or ratings page, I will rarely see it.

What about beers that have an unusual amount of ratings within a few days relative to the overall amount of ratings the beer has as a total. i.e. 5 people rate a beer on the same day or days and that beer had 20 ratings overall before they rated it...That wouldn’t work in reality, but i would like it. 7/3/2009 2:10:44 AM
