When does a place deserve to be added to the site, and when does it deserved to be removed?
I’ve recently seen a few place ratings that are extremely low. One even noted, "No Beer."
Is this an admin call, or are there outlined standards that I’m missing?
I know we even rate the worst of beer on the site, but should we really rate places that aren’t beer destinations--or, worse yet, that don’t even have beer?

If the place doesn’t have craft beer, if it has no beer, it should not be on the site.

AFAIK, undeserving "beer places" are removed constantly, often after infomation from reliable local ratebeerians / regional admins. Beer places that are the best in their region stay, even if there are many better places in other regions. This is a beer website, not a worldwide business directory.

I had hoped this was true, but would like to know whether there are actual standards for what’s "undeserving." Where’s the cut-off?

yes, absolutely. a place that is not good in its own geograpic area, and is not a brewery or brewpub, should be removed.

Difficult to patrol, but I have seen plenty that joined the site just to put their lame pub in Places here. I managed to get one place deleted three times before I gave up, but YES, they should be removed.

I agree, such places should be removed. I have been misguided already some times based on what is included as comment only finding out that there was nothing to see for a ratebeerian. But indeed, what is the cut-off?

I’m not sure I agree with this wholly...
First, "good" is too objective. However, I trust local admins to make those type of decisions.
However, to use Tallahassee as an example, we have a ton of grocery stores and ABC liquors with a decent selection and we have added them to the places because there are several people in our area that watch the "Local" tab on this site to see where we got all of our new beers from, etc., even if it’s from a Publix. I know I can submit my distro information and Aurelius (for example) will see it on the Local tab and go find it as well.

Definitely something to discuss. For instance, I added the Wine World place in Barbados as it is the only place in the country that sells craft beer. They have Sierra Nevada, Hoegaarden, etc. Anywhere else just sells macro stuff. One small store sold Sam Adams but has no name or address so I didn’t add it. Someone commented in the ratings that it isn’t worth going out of your way for...that’s fine. But I think it should remain as the only craft beer seller in the country that I was able to find. For Sierra Leone, when I lived there, there was really no place that sold any beers besides Guinness Foreign Extra and Star Lager, so I didn’t add any places for Sierra Leone. There was a ransom Lebanese restaurant that had some odd imported macros, but it’s hardly a craft beer place. I just added to Tallahassee, FL a small, locally sourced, hors d’oevres type restaurant that only had 2 taps and 20-25 bottles; but they were craft beer focused on the menu rather than wine and both taps were local beers that are hard to find (Swamphead from Gainesville, FL). I’d say while not a huge selection, it was definitely craft beer oriented.

This gets discussed from time to time, and I don’t think you’re ever going to come up with a 100% fool proof policy. I would add that there are certain instance when negative info is good info. If, for example, a place is called "Knoxville Brewhouse", and it is actually a BMC Sports bar, I would like to know not to waste my time.
