ust picked up a Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere Harvest Fresh Hop Ale. I see there are two database entries - one for the "standard" Harvest Fresh Hop and one for Southern Hemisphere. (Also have a Chico Estate version on their website.) Anyone have an idea what makes these different, recipe wise? Or is it the same beer, brewed with the same hops from different regions of the world? Just wondering.

Yes, they have switched from doing one harvest to doing a rotation of three. One of them will be the same as last years, one will be the new Southern Hemisphere, and one will be using their Estate Hops.

I guess we’ll see Chico Estate version for the first time this year at the end of summer!

If you click on the regular fresh hop and southern hemisphere bottles on your link it tells specs on the beers. It is completely different hops for each.

Not only are they different varieties, but if you read closely, you will see that the regular Harvest (which was in bottles last fall) uses fresh wet hops and the Southern Hemisphere uses "fresh" dried hops. I took it for granted when I originally read the press release that fresh hops meant wet hops.

From what I understand it took about a week to get them from the vine to CA. Not sure if a wet hop would last that long with out molding or something (?) Maybe someone who has more experience with this type of thing can chime in?

I’ve found some for $4 for a 24oz bottle. Good deal. Tasting pretty good.

My SN rep told me they had to "lightly dry" them; partly to comply with USDA regs regarding the importation of plant matter, and party to reduce the shipping weight.
