Hi all londoners. I am going to London with my advanced level technichal students (17-18 years old) from March 13th - 17th 2017. They have math and physics at high level. Have any of you an idea of interesting companies/universities to visit in Greater London? We are planning a day-trip to Greenwich and a visit to Technical musuem. Fullers is of course interesting but how about some of the new breweries?

Cheers
Henrik

Is that over a weekend ?

Majority of new breweries are Saturday only but some have started to open on Fridays and also Thursdays.

It is from monday to friday. And I was hoping for some kind of tour, not just a short visit. Suggestions for other visits than breweries are very welcome.

Hi Henrik

The Thames flood barrier is quite close to Greenwich and might be of interest: http://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/place/26941-thames-barrier-information-centre#q7iEvRIXv6jtuIeY.97

Also water related, the London Museum of Water and Steam does educational tours but mainly for younger children I think unless you arrange a special tour (I’ve been on one and have a contact name somewhere if you need it): http://www.waterandsteam.org.uk/ It’s not far from the Fuller’s brewery so could be combined with a visit there.

You might also find this website useful for ideas: http://londonist.com/

Cheers!

Ruth.

If you head towards Kings Cross you could all get on a train to Yorkshire.

However if you do decide to stay in London I can’t think of anywhere I would rather visit than the Natural History Museum. Not a unique suggestion I know, but it’s still the best place to visit.

The only brewery tour I have done in London was at Fullers, but this was for work so not as good as a visit combined with lots of beer.

Never been myself, but the Royal Institute and the Faraday museum may be interesting.

Tris could be of interest, on the engineering theme, too: http://www.crossness.org.uk

They organise tours.

If you wanted to tour a brewery, you could always just drop them an email and ask. Brewers tend to be pretty decent folk, and if you have the angle that you want students to learn something, that might help get you in. As said, all the Bermondsey breweries are open on Saturday, so if you went before the actual open they might be able to show you around, something a little longer than a short visit, though perhaps not as structured as a Fullers tour, say.
