Just heard a sam adams commercial on the radio , and they refered to this summer as The Summer of Sam. I am trying best best to figure out what the hell they were thinking when they Okayed that idea, but am coming up short. Does this rub anyone else the wrong way or am i being silly?

At least they didn’t say "I know what you did last summer." I find it kinda amusing though. So are you saying that Sam at DFH shouldn’t name a beer in honor of his son and call it Son of Sam?

Or maybe he is refering to David Berkowitz, the .44 caliber killer...also known as the Son of Sam.....

No, I think this is kind of offensive too.

Very tasteless to take a tragedy (however old) and use it as a double entendre in a marketing campaign. If I was living kin of one of his victims, I’d be livid.

I grew up in NYC, and I remember the Summer of Sam very well, as a teenager. It was a very tense, stressful and traumatic time. I would never buy a beer that’s associated with that time.

This isn’t a new marketing campaign. I’ve heard these ads for the past several years.

Ive never heard it before. But, i dont watch tv and only iust recently started listening to the radio. This amazes me that this ad campaign could last this long. I am really not personally offended, just more confused and feel bad for the large group of people that surely must be offended. Hmm, maybe i will write them an email.

Which makes it even more ridiculous that they haven’t cut this campaign off yet. I just called Sam Adams and left a message for their PR department voicing my disgust and asking for a return phone call to explain why on Earth they would do this.

come on, people take everything so seriously anymore. Do you really think they thought of any kind of double entendre with this marketing campaign? Was it a good idea? perhaps not. But if you recall there is also a movie called summer of sam and that was still made 10+ yrs ago when it was even more fresh in the minds of the populous. They are SAM Adams, this is the summer. not that big of a deal.

Judging by the phone call I just had with one of their PR people, they’re not happy about it. The woman I just spoke with is trying to get to the bottom of this, as she had no knowledge of such a campaign, and openly admitted that it’s inappropriate. She said she thinks it is a local marketing campaign that they didn’t approve, and is working on getting to the bottom of it right now. I commend them for acknowledging this and trying to get to the bottom of the campaign’s etiology.
