at outside enjoying a tasty plate of sushi and the first cold beer that came to hand (Moritz lager). The combo works well, but do you have any suggestions on other beer styles that pair well with sushi?

The styles that I can remember working well in my experience were: Pilsner, IPA/hoppy APA (something with a big juicy hop profile but not overwhelming bitterness), smoked (Aecht Schlenkerla Marzen is the only one from that category but it was fantastic with bbq eel and spider roll), and scotch ale. It depends on what sushi you are eating specifically though. My thoughts for the best all-rounder would be either a grassy pils or IPA/APA, Alpha King specifically used to be my go-to sushi beer.

Mikkeller has tried with "It’s a Light".
Honestly I dont think any beer is the perfect match for Sushi. But a very good Fino or Manzanilla Sherry or a dry, or even better a dry Tokaij from Hungary.
The only beers that are hitting these notes are the old corked Gales bottles that are very hard to find by now, but they actually go quite well with Sushi too (I only tried it once).

I usually I have a pilsner or an APA/IPA or Sake with Sushi.
Recently I tried it with a nice Biere de Garde (La Bavaisienne) and it was great too.

There is a place here in Philly called Raw that serves Hitachino Nest beers so I usually pair up one of their brews with my sushi. Nice combo.

When I eat Sushi locally here in Toronto, I like to have a Steam Whistle Pilsner with it.

At the place I work, a nice spicy hamachi roll pairs nicely with a double IPA.

I only drink a pils with sushi, have tried others, but really the only brews I’d drink with it are Pils, otherwise, I get Iced Tea.

For me, it’s Saison Dupont. Especially if it’s spicy.

Hitachino White Ale is something I like with sushi. Or like others have said, a nice crisp pils.
