IMO, the one beer to have, if you’re having only one - Hennepin.

Food: Traditional spread (smoked turkey, honey glazed ham, cranberry sauce, green beans, sweet potato, stuffing, etc.)

Beer: This year I’m thinking of going with Bruery Autumn Maple and Alagash Fluxus 09. And in keeping with tradition, I’m going to open one sick ass, big ABV barrel aged brew for dessert to wash everything down and help induce my post-meal snooze.

There is usually a lot of diversity at my Thanksgiving table, so there is a food that will probably pair well with any beer style. I tend to go for something with lower alcohol since the meal is probably going to put me out anyway. A nice cassis should fit in with my spread. It cuts the fat and grease pretty well without having a lot of alcohol.

Food: Turkey, duck, lamb, Virginia ham, tamales. Giblet, mushroom, and oyster stuffings. Waldorf and greek salads. Pecan pie and Bumbleberry pie.

We always do cheese beforehand, and I like a nice sour or Lambic with that.

However, for the core turkey day meal, it’s Saison Dupont, not up for debate!

+ 1. Perfect!

Not to mention Thanksgiving is the only true American holiday and Hennepin is from NY state

Besides the usual Turkey, stuffing, cranberry, etc... we always have some fresh polish kielbasa with our spread. My butcher usually gets longer thinner kielbasa than can be grilled quickly and then cut in small pieces to be served as an appetizer with some fresh horseradish.

So for pairing with the appetizer I go Zweic Porter

Dinner - Saison Dupont

Since I am cooking, more than one of both thumbs up

My mom still cooks Thanksgiving dinner every year for her whole side of the family in St. Louis, and they’re all pretty much just Bud/Bud Light/Busch/Michelob/etc. drinkers. This year, I’m bringing home four big bottles of Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux to go with the meal. I’m thinking about some other individual bottles to bring for before and after- seasonal stuff that would go good with appetizers and pies and not be too overwhelming to people used to American macro lagers- and I’m open to suggestions. 11/4/2009 6:35:58 AM
