I thought the same thing when I read the article last week. What a tool.

I gotta agree with the article, my favorite is still a nice clean refreshing Pilsner.

And that is of course the reason that as much as, ehh... one, of your top 50 is a (Bohemian) Pilsener

Is The Growler magazine the deal I see at some liquor stores for free? If yes, is the entire thing as interesting as this article?

Did anyone actually see "Sign guy"? Not saying he doesn’t/didn’t exist, but I am sure there would have been a pretty unavoidable scene....

Interesting. This may happen in wine more than the author gives credit to. The difference with wine is that it is more expensive to play that game (you have to be prepared to put down $75 or $100 per bottle--and buy a half case--in order to play for those unique vintages) so you don’t have that many people doing it and they do it by mail order rather than standing at a winery.

But what’s he is describing with tickers is true in many other hobbies--in fact, scarcity is the nature of collecting. "Collecting" has its own history, dating in significant measure to the Victorian era. I am part of that, I fully admit, and I have often enjoyed the pursuit of a rare beer or completing a full vertical of something. Yeah, that’s different than his value system, in which people come together around a basic craft beer. So what? Every scene has a mix of types. I never dressed up in costume when I went to Rocky Horror, but it didn’t mean that those who did were freaks or over-the-top.

It takes all types.

Interesting point here with ratings as apposed to enjoyment. Honestly I wish there were more Pilsners out there at my disposal. But I don’t always feel there is a correlation between what I enjoy and how I rate. Hell, I really enjoy PBR and drink more of it then any other beer, but is it in my top 50, no. (maybe it should be I guess.) It is what it is and I like it, doesn’t need to be a top 50 beer, overall or for me, and neither do my Pilsners. Anyone else have a style or favorite beer that doesn‘t relate to their top 50?

I’m now following tmrmwel because of his response. I like his style.

To your point Adam, I think as person changes their preferences their ratings tend to be a little off. I still have plenty of imperial stouts in my top 50 even though I don’t drink them as often, nor get as wet about them as I did in the past. So no, not always will the top 50 reflect your personal preference all the time. There may be other reasons that I can’t think of quickly too.

I do feel you are incorrect about the number of pilsners available to you. I can think of 2 pilsners that are available right now (lift bridge pathway and harriet pils) that are nice local examples. Obviously there are more, especially as more new breweries enter the state and more breweries open locally.
