As far back as I can remember, which is at least when I started working in liquor/beer stores at 21, all the macros do sell 8oz bottles of their beers. They are all screw top, though.

well, with the various energy drinks that are canned, brewers could certainly can a high abc brew in a small can. Rogue did that for a while with thier barelywine,

I drank a lot of Rolling Rock in 7oz. bottles when I was younger. Referred to them as "Green Grenades".

Schoenling’s Little Kings come in 7 oz. 8 packs. I can’t remember though whether they are screw top or not.

I was thinking Little Kings as well, though I can’t remember screw top or not, either.

I think they’d be cool for test batches or mixed "samplers" from a brewery.

Flying Dog actually did this at some point. The bottles they have left over, they are selling to Rogue and that is what they package their ponies in.

I’d be equally for big beers in small cans. I think those would really stand out on the shelves too.

21st Amendment was, I believe, the first brewery to put a craft beer in an 8 ounce can with their barley wine. As far as I know Rogue only did it with bottles.

Full Sail’s Session line are kind of ponies.

There was a point A(admittedly years ago) that I drank to a degree that I thought such bottles were "stupid".

I now agree that it would be awesome to use "nip" bottles for big beers, especially the ones that exceed 12%. I am even leery of taking stuff that is 18% to shares/tastings because it all adds up.

If you like small bottles, you would love this:

BrewDog Ghost Deer in 60ml bottle.

There aren’t many bottles around Europe smaller than 330ml. Some 250/275s show up here and there. Back in the day a lot of UK breweries put strong beers in nip bottles (180ml), which is a good size. Thomas Hardy’s is probably the most well known example. De Molen used to use nips for their big stouts and barley wines as well, which was cool. They seem to have phased out this format size, though.
