Just mixed a founders imperial stout with a backwoods bastard and I am enjoying it a ridiculous amount. Anyone else try this?

I have a dual tap kegerator and quite often mix 70% DIPA with 30% Imperial stout. I like to think of it as an Imperial Black IPA and it always come out amazing.

I’ve always had a purist attitude about mixing beers, but this sounds genius!!!

I’ve loosened my beer mixing beliefs over the years. Before, as a beer purist who accepted and embraced innovation outside of "accepted and normal beer styles" but hated abject adulteration, anyone mixing anything was dead to me. I accepted new ingredients with aplomb, but never free-lance mixing of styles.

Phillies08Champs opened my eyes one day the Tuesday Craft Ale House beer share, when he, almost embarrassedly admitted that he had mixed Cascade Blueberry with an Imperial stout, and it worked well. That made sense to me. I love blueberries, blueberry beer, and respect and consider the opinions of fellow scientists.

Now, I look at beer mixing as just another evolution and innovation in the beer world. I’m NEVER going to do it with my own beer, because that isn’t what the brewer intended for these hybrids, but I note and think of hybrid scenarios all the time when I drink and rate beer.

I have some Goodnight Bodacious by Shorts Brewing. Sounds similar. It’s a Double Black IPA. Has the modest coffee & chocolate flavors with the hops of a traditional DIPA. Love it.
