Brewing This Weekend

Weatherís warming up, but still just enough of a chill in the air to keep it comfortable (at least here in Ohio). Whoís brewing this weekend?

Iíll be doing my ginger wheat recipe this weekend and rye lager next weekend,

Ill be doing my first lager thursday and I have an IPA with mosaic, simcoe, centennial and columbus planned next.

Nothing for me because Iím re-plumbing the brewery. Getting rid of a lot of soft tubing and replacing it with copper.

But I am thinking about building a Westy 12 clone.

And looking at the SRM in general but mostly for Westvleteren 12.

Thinking about an Imperial Red or a Robust Porter. Need to do some shopping, my fermenters are beckoning me.

Nothing this weekend, have got the midterms coming up. The weekend after that Iíll brew some stuff though. Planning on a Simcoe APA, Flanders Red/Oud Bruin with Cherries and probably a Black IPA. Possibly a DIPA as well.

Donít use the color of the head to reflect the SRM, that can be very misleading. Also, I believe most of the color comes from dark candi sugar, if Iím not mistaken. Caramelized sugar wonít give you the right character, imo. Iíd consider making your own. I did a Dark Strong with all pils and then Candi sugars and got it good and dark. Thereís a nice richness to it as well.

Sure. I just made a mosaic single hop pale ale and it is tasting great but wanted to see how it pairs with other hops.

Mash at 150, and ferment bry-97.

Iím still a brewing noob, so I primarily like to mess with kits.

I just picked up a Bourbon Barrel Porter kit from Northern Brewer that I will be dumping onto the dregs of a sour / funky saison. Why you ask? WHY NOT, I say!
