A local brewery, Rhinegeist (which I love so far), is releasing its first íspecialí beer, a double IPA called Saber Tooth Tiger on Saturday, August 3rd. The method theyíre using to release the beer is a $10 ticket through Eventbrite. The ticket gets you one 12 oz. pour and the option to buy a 32 oz. growler (growlers will be $15).

If the beer lasts through the day, 12 oz. pours will be $7.

Do any other brewers do it this way? The local beer guys donít seem particularly thrilled with this model, and Iím not sure I understand it.

Is this place located in Manhattan? Because then I could see a 12oz pour of a double IPA being $10.

And worth every penny if youíre stuck in the heard of people in stupid times square

Doesnít sound worth it in Ohio. Iíd scroll past myself, let the brewery know things like that are stupid.

Do they have a history of events being overcrowded? Or are they just trying to create artificial hype...

It feels a lot like the latter.

12oz about 350 ml, so almost equal to a 330 ml bottle, fresh from the tap I guess, for 10$ = about 7.5 euros, double IPA, seems expensive to me.

This calls for a boycott, plain and simple. At least thatís what I would do if this was my local.

Seems unjustified if there is not a reason to truly expect such a crowd that there might be problems/hours long waits/etc. Iím guessing thatís probably not the case, so it seems likely that theyíre just trying to generate a buzz around the beer.

It is an odd idea, but it works out to $7 for the beer and $3 cover for the bands/event. Not a fan of the idea but it sounds like there will be more than just a new beer on tap.

Can you organize everyone in the area to show up and sit there not ordering anything until they make it $7?
