Big Beer is a big business in America. Total annual sales stand around $100 billion. Craft Beers, as defined by the Brewer’s Association, are booming, yet still only account for around 15% of the beer sold in America. On a volume basis, craft beer’s share of the market is about half of that, due to its premium pricing. So what’s America drinking? A whole lot of light beer, most of which is made by a handful of monstrous macro brewers. America’s most popular beer is Bud Light – by a couple billion dollars. Yes, Bud Light’s U.S. sales alone would lodge it firmly within the Fortune 500.

Bud Light Strawberita does 246 million a year in sales.I’d love to know how many craft breweries it would take to earn that much money a year that InBev makes from 1 fruited malt liquor in a can.

nice link.

Surprises for me:
- the gulf between Corona and Heiny.
- who drinks Bud Ice?
- never thought Yuengling is that high
- Strawberita, seriously?

Yuengling and Heineken are the only 2 on that list I’d touch.

LOL @ craft beer sales relative to these behemoths.

are you LOLing at me for simply having the question that it would be interesting to see how many breweries it would take to make up Strawberrita sales? I would figure the bottom 1000 craft breweries in USA combined don’t equal sales of srawberita.

Advertising dollars at work

why are these dopes using BA scores? Our scores have many more ratings and we provide percentiles, which is much more informative.

No, not LOLing at you. Laughing at the disparity between craft and macro brewers revenue.

The largest craft brewer is not anywhere near Straw-ber-rita. Insane.

Nope.

People like this. 85% of the people don’t buy macros because of advertising. Its cheap. Its available EVERYWHERE. Its easy to drink 12 of these after work on a Tuesday.

People who criticize macro drinkers are just as bad as people who criticize craft beer drinkers.

What stood out more for me, rather than the volumes which are not so shocking given the size of the market, was the scores given by BA-ites - they seemed a little generous to say the least.

So, as I have lots more important things to do but which to avoid, I did some looking up on RB:

BA RB
Bud Light 47 1.2
Coors Light 50 1.34
Budweiser 57 1.44
Miller Lite 53 1.39
Corona Extra 56 1.69
Natural Light 43 1.05
Busch Light 46 1.2
Michelob Ultra 47 1.1
Busch 49 1.27
Heineken 64 2.09
Modelo Especial 65 1.97
Keystone Light 46 1.19
Miller High Life 63 1.65
Natural Ice 45 1.07
Bud Light Platinum 54 1.62
Pabst Blue Ribbon 68 1.81
Bud Light Lime 53 1.59
Bud Ice 47 1.3
Yuengling Lager 78 2.78
B.L.Straw Ber Rita 56 2.09

*Phew*, at least I sense that there’s /some/ sanity on RB!

So if volume (Ad Populum) equals quality, strawb-whatever wins.
