I like this idea, move the ’recently posting’ thing(which I have never seen the point of to begin with) to the dead space under the random photo and put the recent trade topics where it is now.. sounds like an easy thing to do and something that wouldn’t remove anything from the main page, just add something else to take up the dead space that already exists... and something that would be a decent compromise until real subscribe-able forums are implemented.. anyone else like/dislike this idea?

The traders want to see a section on the main forum page for recent trade requests.
The homebrewers want a section for recent homebrew topics.
The Europeans want a rection for recent Europe topics.
The cooks want to see the latest recipe ideas.
The travelers want a section for travel topics.
The monkeys want a section for recent poo slingings.
Most everyone wants at least a metro or two.
And I won’t even mention what the sick puppies on OT-D want.
That’s a lot of sections to show on the main forum page.
Maybe just show the latest three threads from each of the forums so nobody gets to monopolize the available space?

That’s not a bad idea.

No, actually it isn’t the same thing at all. When someone posts a topic in the other forums that do show up on the side bar, they are actually looking for some discussion. When someone is posting a FT or ISO thread, they are looking to receive beermail inquiries and not to generate discussion irrelevant to the trade. See the difference?
If we vote, maybe we could base the vote on how many trades someone has listed in their profile here. My 225 public trades vote to leave the forum as it is.
=I’m joking for the sarcastically challenged.

Ok...back from non-carnal, husbandly duties.
First, Odeed - thanks for ironing out the scenario. I’m sorry for getting overly defensive, but as kp said, it’s tough to be on one side, with a mob on the other. And you have to admit, with speech like this, it’s pretty hard to misinterpret and for me to not take personally:
"I would feel better knowing the majority of RB traders wanted this change instead of it being done by one guy for no good reason."
I mean, c’mon.
And thanks, kp - no matter what the outcome, you’ve seemed to cut to the chase.
That said, it’s been discussed by all the upper-level admins and chances are the thread topics will remain off the front page.
Now, that said, we (and by we, I mean Mike/acrz), may be able to make the "subscription" feature a reality. No promises...on timing or if it’ll absolutely happen...but we’re trying.

Now we just need a way to force everyone to subscribe to the trade forum so they will see our ads.
And I guess maybe I can stop working on the enhancements to my subscriptions page?
Another idea, and it’s not a complete idea, is to somehow register that you want/have a beer for trade. Something between the want/have list and posting an ISO/FT. I mean, why do I even need to post ’ISO: Westy 12’ when I have it on my want list? For visibility, because people are not browsing my want list often enough. But there is no need for a discussion on it, either, so a thread is overkill. Maybe something like a new main trade page that shows recent trade forum topics, links to FAQs on trading, recent trade ratings, top trader lines, etc, and a new section the shows just beer names for recent ISO/FT requests where each person can list one or two top beers they want to trade.

Exactly! and the fix is subscribe-able forums.. but guess what.. in the meantime the trade forum is the only one that was told to go sit in the corner and play by itself.. The diffrence here(from what you just stated) is the trade forum users didn’t ask for our own separate recent topics list, but since it got pulled off the list it seems like a fair compromise until a permanent(subscription forums) solutions exists.
FWIW, and this coming from someone who has been very vocal about the removal of the trade forum from the main page as being bad, I agree that it shouldnt be added back to the recent topics list without some modification. However, I do not see a reason it can’t have it’s own small list at the bottom of the main page.

Just go to the beer’s page. It lists how many have it and how many want it now which is a nice feature and has helped me trade a lot more than the trade forum ever did.

and actually, I would like someone to explain to me why putting such a list in the dead space on the bottom of the page would be a bad thing?(I would prefer this answer to come from an admin, or at least someone making a serious response)

That’d actually be a good compromise as it’d keep the forum off the side bar but still be on the main page for someone who wants to see it.
