2. The site is just slow these days. I find myself searching for beer reviews on BA just because the response time on RB has been poor of late. I spend less time on RB as a result.
That’s a whole other issue. I’ll click on a RateBeer link and then go sure another website in another window while waiting on RateBeer to load.

Is it? I think it could be THE issue. At times the site has been almost unusable due to the speed. Unless you are very deadicated to this site, I doubt you stick around waiting for page loads. I would think there is a very direct correlation between page load times and # of posts & overall quality of visits. If not, I’m wasting a lot of my clients money making sure they have plenty of processor space and bandwidth.

True. The poor system performance and the excessive DB deadlock error messages are going to kill a lot more than the the trade forum. But the fix may be deeper than a hardware upgrade. I’m no expert on SQL Server, but I should not get deadlock errors on a page where I’m just reading data. I’ve never been a fan of using Windows based clients, let alone servers.

First, Odeed - thanks for ironing out the scenario. I’m sorry for getting overly defensive, but as kp said, it’s tough to be on one side, with a mob on the other. And you have to admit, with speech like this, it’s pretty hard to misinterpret and for me to not take personally:

"I would feel better knowing the majority of RB traders wanted this change instead of it being done by one guy for no good reason."

I mean, c’mon.

And thanks, kp - no matter what the outcome, you’ve seemed to cut to the chase.

That said, it’s been discussed by all the upper-level admins and chances are the thread topics will remain off the front page.

Now, that said, we (and by we, I mean Mike/acrz), may be able to make the "subscription" feature a reality. No promises...on timing or if it’ll absolutely happen...but we’re trying.

its all good man. thumbs up
i think im outta this.whatever you guys decide is fine with me.

OK, what I think I’m hearing is that people don’t want list some of their beers on their want/have lists, but would rather post ISO/FT threads. To me that translates to "I’m not using the features I’ve been given, so give me more features".

Sometimes for me trading is a spontaneous decision prompted by a ft or an iso thread. I confess that I have started using the wants/have search feature more and more as of late. In any event, I will keep on trading regardless of the outcome.

This would be my suggestion as well. I would love for the ability just to see right off how someone’s wants/haves compared with mine.

Basically like this, but integrated into RateBeer.

Which is back to my earlier statement about the website with the best system for traders will attract the most traders making for the widest availability of beers for trade and users that want them. Think eBay vs. Yahoo auctions.

Why aren’t kp’s ideas actually implemented into the site instead of simply on notratebeer.com? A lot of them are helpful.

Because if I were to add that feature I would code it more efficiently. It’s not a matter of adding a new feature, it’s a matter of adding a new feature the right way.

Things are being worked on. Posting the same link and trumpeting the same wanted features every three days doesn’t make them appear any faster. There’s a lot of things being worked on right now and a lot of things on the to-do list, just need to be a little patient. When volunteering feels like work it makes me want to do less of it, so I work on the site when I feel inspired, not when I feel like I have to get something done (that’s what my 9-5 is for), plus I have a life outside of computers too pax

Gotcha, that is completely understandable. I guess I just didn’t know if others thought they weren’t good ideas and features, or if it was a priority/time issue with him not having the authority to make the changes himself.
