Maybe threads are getting lower traffic (number of hits) because people are doing a better job with subject lines? Someone will post "FT: DL 08, ISO: Darkness". You don’t even have to read the thread if you either don’t want DL or don’t have Darkness. Or you can just click the user and review their want/have list, again without going into the thread. What’s the value of a bunch of people viewing your post if they are not interested in the trade?

BTW, 90% of my trades originate in the forums rather than with a BM.

I do wayyyyyyy too much trading on here. Some of it is from the forum, but mainly it just people emailing me or past traders. It seems lately I’m going for my second, third, fourth, etc. trade with the same traders. I use BA now too since I wasn’t getting enough action for a little bit on here. I still really dig this forum, and if I have to go through a little more effort to find what I want, no big deal. A few months ago I lost faith in this place, but lately it seems trading has gotten better an better. Maybe that is just the steep curve for newbies like myself. 5/2/2008 5:32:38 PM

It seems that whenever I put an iso up I get replies, even for rare beers and I like not having to sift through 50 "ISO: Darkness FT: Fat Tire" posts like I would have to on the other site. I think the main reason people don’t make as many posts is because more work goes on behind the scenes in this site. Anyway, I just wanted to jump in and say keep up the good work, I will never go back to the other site for trading unless I absolutely have to and I think this forum is working well.

But you WILL use the other site’s forum if you "absolutely have to", right?
eye roll

"Behind the scenes" trades might help established traders but it seems to do nothing for the public community (I am not denying the value, rather simply observing the facts).
Did you meet your private traders publicly first?

I was merely saying that I think this trading forum is doing well. Yes I have met some traders that I trade behind the scenes with in the forum but as I said in my post just about every ISO post that I made here has been answered as well. And I don’t really understand how you can say behind the scenes trading doesn’t help the "public" community. We all belong to this "public" community and if the trade forum has helped us establish connections how is that not benefiting people from the RB community. Anyway i’ll get out of this thread now, the only reason I posted was to say that I liked this trade forum alot, sorry!

Honestly, I have no issues with the trade forum.

Having said that, I really want to see a separate CIGAR(S) forum.

Agreed. Come to think of it, all five trades that I did this week were behind the scenes, as well as one going out on Monday.

I feel like this shift to behind the scenes trading is due in part to the change in the forums. They are so dead that the only way to really get a trade going is privately BM someone and ask them if they want to trade.

Yeah id say thats the way it seems

I offered up a "Good King Henry Special Reserve",
It was in the top50. I got 1 Offer for it.

But since then ive traded about 6 through people who beermailed me an offer.

It was months after joining before i started trading, and for most of those months the Trade posts were on the Front page.
I personally liked them there, as i got a feel for the fun of trading , and what people wanted , were looking for and such.

If i started now, id never have got that feel, and thus may never have started trading.

BA is now seperating out all BIF’s and making 2 trading forums now. I still do almost all my trading here and will continue to. I like the forums and you have done a great job! I do wish it would go back to the main page, but I do understand when a special beer gets released it clogs up the main page...but if you think about it, not anymore than all the DL Day threads. cheers! 5/3/2008 8:19:46 AM

I’ve noticed a shift in FT/ISO’s over the past couple years. When I first became active in trading, there was a post for local 6-packs almost every week. That’s how I got started. I rarely see that anymore. I don’t know if it’s because of the TF being moved or what. I do see a lot of FT/ISO for the big beers and special releases. And there is nothing wrong with that. However, not too many possible new traders have these big new beers to offer. So they glance over the trade forum and keep moving on.

Many of us are fortunate to have established trading partners around the country or world. I believe this has contributed to less traffic in the Trade Forum. If we want new blood, the forum needs more exposure (thread titles back on main page) and lets start doing some "FT - Local 6-pack". With that being said...
