There are a number of cities that you can draw parallels to and complain about in this regard:

Seattle
Austin
San Francisco (though they were kind of the originator of the whole thing)

Which reminds me that I should add Whip In (Austin) now that they’re brewing. Indian food, smoke shop, bottle shop, and live country music all in one, in a strip mall.

I thought the weird factor was pretty high at:

Funny you should post that. I was just getting ready to put that one in myself.

yeah definitely a surprise to walk in unaware. couldn’t get much into the beer over the ambient smell of spice and fried bread.

small town southern Oregon coast spot it pretty much the only thing beer-worthy on the coast between Arcada/Redwoods and Newport, Oregon. back then at least, maybe not anymore. i don’t think they brew on location so doesn’t count anyway.

strange like hick strange. dingy Chuck-e-Cheeses pizzeria with cafeteria seating and a small bar back near the pizza order window. kids everywhere. families drinking soda. everybody there seemed oblivious about the beer. to their credit the imperial stout was solid.

Does having a brewpub in a windmill count as weird?

De Molen (Holland), not sure they actually brew here but it’s an awesome place

Brouwerij ’t IJ (Holland), smelled like shit from the cheese and spent grains, service was awful, beers were meh. At least it’s not in the touristy part of Amsterdam.

Grogg’s aka Pinnacle in a double-wide in the middle of nowhere Utah. cowboy hats, cowboy boots, pickup trucks, 80’s hair, neon lights, mormons (probably), infected beer across the board, some of the worst I’ve ever had.

another strange hick sort of experience. dive bar serving as a tap for the local brewery serving shitty beer in bad shape that nobody orders and the regulars laugh at while drinking Hamm’s.
