I am going to say Jackie O’s even though it may not fit the thread exactly. They are underappreciated because no one has been to visit them yet. I have never heard someone say they did not drink some great beer when they have gone to visit the brewery in the past year. Their brewmaster has only been brewing professionally for 3 years but consistently has at least 3 barrel aged beers on draft at all times. He has barrels and barrels of stuff aging in his cellar, with sours, bourbon, cabernet barrels, and blends of his beers already. He also wants to have a sour beer fest sometime in the next year or so. They also just purchased the building next door and plan to expand the food menu, cold storage, patio, and add a bottling line to bottle their sours and imperial beers.

I guess what I am really saying is you need to get there and try some of their stuff. If you want to try all there best stuff go in 2 weekends for brew week.http://www.ohiobrewweek.com/brew.html

If I’ve learned anyhting from this thread, its that Lagunitas, if anything, is apparently overappreciated. Lagunitas is disgusting syrup. 7/2/2009 3:32:10 AM

Brooklyn. I’ve had a few stale bottles of their stuff in the past (it was not pretty), but when you find fresh bottles or draught, and try out more of their line to see what their high points of achievement they can reach - pretty good ’mainstream’ micro. The Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse, wow! love Recently the Lager on tap, and the Brown Ale, both really spot-on. Have a Local 1 to pop open very soon... and that liqueur-like Chocolate Stout, wow.

Just to add ONE of several! (Avery Lagunitas and others also seem to be better with freshness.)

Totally agree with your assesment of Brooklyn. They make very solid beers that appeal often to NON beer geeks, and I think they are looked down on often from the beer geeks for that...But they do some real solid stuff...

L’Amère à Boire in downtown Montreal. Perhaps because they do not make extreme beers! 7/2/2009 3:16:44 PM

Furthermore
Two Brothers, though I haven’t tried a lot of theirs yet.

Brooklyn is a funny one. I know a lot of people around here don’t care for their brews, and especially their regulars...and I haven’t had them for a while, though I found their IPA, Lager, Weisse to be pretty decent sessionable brews. Albeit not fantastic.
I do kind of miss them a little bit now that I can’t get them anymore.

Ahh, there we go. So many of the breweries listed seem to be very much appreciated to me, but Stoutds is definitely one that is stellar and gets virtually zero love ever.

Also, having tried their Commodore Perry IPA and having loved it, I think I need to try more Great Lakes stuff to see if I think they fit the bill as well...

Nobody appreciates when they open a Trafalgar beer from Ontario - what OTHER brewer give you an infected bottle-gusher only a few weeks after bottling? 7/3/2009 11:33:16 PM
