Hey everyone. I’m spending a week in Belgium this July. I have yet to try Westvleteren 8. Does anyone if it’s a regular on tap or bottled at any bars or restaurants in Brussels, Brugge, Antwerp, or Gent? I don’t think I can make it to the monastery itself. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Quite easy to find. Not on tap but bottled. If not in bars and restaurants, then definitely in one of the beer shops in the cities you mentioned.

If you spend 100euros at Beer Planet in Brussels, they will give you one for free.

Last time I was in Brussels, it was not uncommon to find in bars.

The distribution page also helps you:

distribution data is valid for 12 months, so these must be relatively recent catches

the list would be big. Just walk into some good beerbars, and you’ll find it

Beertemple shop in Brussel usually has it as well.

Almost every shop I went to in Brugges, Brussels and Ghent had all 3 Westvleteren.

Not being a smart-ass, fwiw. I would really suggest going to drink it here, as I have always enjoyed it immensely, and you can get the Blond very, very fresh:

yes - and it’s not far out of the way. You can sip the 8 on the patio, soak up the sun with the bicyclists, and even have an ice cream made with the 12. Or a hommel paptart.

It’s actually quite far out of the way, especially with public transport. It’s possible of course, but will cost you some hours of travel.

I’d rather visit the Struise brouwers at the neighbouring town of Oostvleteren. More diverse and better beers.

Make the drive to Westvleteren and enjoy it at In De Vrede. Good food and you’re not supporting the secondary market.

"quite far" is relative, especially for a person visiting from abroad, and more used to traveling large distances.
and Struise is only a few kilometers from In De Vrede.
Of course, both are easier if you have a car, since that’s one of the few corners of Europe that isn’t well connected by public transport.
