Message Aurelius beers 7042 º places 217 º 22:33 Wed 8/13/2014 I realized tonight that my Ratebeer user number is 1976, and the latest users are in the 300k range. Went back and looked at the users with more ratings, and sampled the user profiles that were <1976. Amazing to me that there aren’t more that are active - lots were one-time logins, lots that haven’t been active for 10 years. Of the folks with more ratings, just a handful have been around for the long haul. Oakes is kicking around, and a couple of others. Ratebeer has been a travel/beer compendium for a big chunk of my adult/professional life. It’s my primary digital exhaust. Wow. I feel like a fossil. As The Boss says - Time slips away and leaves you with nothing, mister, but boring stories of glory days.

Nowhere close to that now... When I started, like 500 ratings got you in the top fifty. I always wonder if I wouldn’t be intimidated if I joined the site today. Probably just be on Untappd like the rest of the kids these days.

I did not trust sites back then. So, I wound up at 4483 and I still rate only when I get the odd desire to do so. (Just sampled probably a hundred or more beers in London and will likely rate not a one, yet enjoyed quite a few. Apparently my connection to this site is enjoying beer and the likes of people such as yourself and many others.

Message after4ever P admin beers 8025 º places 322 º 10:51 Fri 8/15/2014 I was much later, in the 32000s. I can remember being completely staggered by Per having over 5K rates. Oh, how naive we were back then. Biggest change? It’s SO MUCH EASIER to try new beers now. I can’t even keep up with the arrivals at the shop 10 miles from my house anymore. If I give myself permission to buy more than one bottle, or re-visit an old favorite now and then, it’s all over. I miss a dozen new beers.
