Since the 2012 batch of Kate the Great was bottled in 11.2 ounce bottles, is it appropriate to ask for multiples for a King Henry? If so, what’s fair value?

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

If you have one and want the other, 1 for 1, but I agree with peteinSD 100%.

Since KtG is over and not being brewed again by that brewer at that location, people will probably hoard those 12oz stubbies. But King Henry is like the #5 on BeerAdvocate now so can land you just about whatever you want over there. I would agree though that KH is better than KtG, but the barrel character is what makes KH great. If you hold onto it too long, it will be a waste. KtG is not as good as Smuttynose Imperial Stout, just fyi.

What’s happening with KtG? I hadn’t read anything about that. Is Portsmouth shutting down or moving?

If I recall correctly the head brewer is leaving and he is taking his recipe with him.

Latest is he will brew KtG under a new name and Portsmouth will try and brew its own but he said it will not be the same.

If Portsmouth has more than one brewer that makes it, I don’t think that there will be a large difference in the beer. Call me crazy, but for how long they have been making it, I would think that more than just the brewer has been part of the process. And once a process is known on a set of equipment, a set of trained monkeys could feasably reproduce a product. But barring natural variations in the ingredients, I bet it will be the same. But it won’t be in the eyes of beer snobs. Because it is not the same head brewer. I would hazard to guess that the average beer snob does not know the names of more than a few head brewers across the country that make the beers that they love, and probably can’t name a single assistant brewer for any beer.
