Why don’t we just list every effin’ pub in London?

That’s right, I’ve been looking at the London listings.

Tell me any other city which has so many pubs listed and I’ll buy you a beer*... looking through the list, it could be pared down to around 50 no bother - most of those places ARE NOT good places to send someone who wants to sample the UK beer scene; they might be great pubs with some decent real ale on, but IMO there are just far too many listed and a sever culling process should begin immediately.

Some ex classic drinking holes are turning that way. Recent visits to both the Rake and the Market Porter in Borough have been mundane. Then there’s the sheer number of Whetherspoon pubs

...because it would take ages...?

Cause every other city is shite.

and cause, its important if your staying in area X to find a decent place near you.

If im staying in North west london, i dont want to know about the 15 great pubs in the center and the 3 great ones in the East.

I want to know the 2 or 3 decent ones that are within walking distance of where im staying.

There is a ranking system in place, so anyone looking for the BEST pubs in London can very quickly and easily figure out which pubs those are. At the same time, if someone wants to see what the options are in a certain area, the map function allows one to quickly find what pubs are in their vicinity; in this case, it is useful to include decent (if not outstanding) pubs.

I’ll ask again.

Why do no other cities have such a massive array of mediocre pubs listed? Because the admins (I assume) are more selective.

Surely the places section should point you to the best places and not ones that’ll do if there’s nothing else?

Way too many mediocre pubs on that list IMO. I mean, Cheshire Cheese on Fleet St for example? Let’s all have a laugh at that one... someone please explain to me why that’s on a list of great beer places. Ditto many more of them...

I thought Places used to have to be somewhere special? Now it’s somewhere that serves ’craft beer’. The London listings turned into a lame sub-BITE section some time ago.

The admins neither create the entries (there or elsewhere) nor do they delete entries that people like, for instance ME, create because we felt like it. Just because it’s mediocre - or hell, even SHIT, is no reason to delete an entry.

You’re not really pissed off because London happens to have a bazillion pubs in it AND people love to visit it, and them? Not really?

Bullocks question Gazza. Counter question which other town in Europe has that many peeps living in it? Bigger and bolder, needs more places. Thats London today. Leighton has the answer, coming from abroad I really want to know what is in my area instead of spendng one or two hours on the tube before getting there

This exactly.

That’s why I don’t understand why all Sainsbury’s, Tescos, etc are merged. It’s not only about the individual beer listings, it’s also about info about the individual store directions.

If you look over the Glasgow listing (and to a lesser extend Edinburgh), you’ll actually see a massive array of mediocre pubs, so its not only limited to London.
