Yes, Iíll cross-check with other sites - Iíll ask Twitter before I look anywhere else - but the great thing about ratebeer was that Places were the best of the best.

Itís definitely frustrating that thereís a spam reviews for London pubs (*Cough* Black Heart *Cough*).

Yep, I am sure that is your opinion, thanks for that Gazza. As always forthright in your views. But before we consider your opinion, I think we should also consider other peopleís opinions too, as indeed you suggest with the "Discuss."

So far, there appears to be you, Simon and Thomas who want a cull.

Now Iím sure that both yourself and Simon know where to go in London and have also caught up with the latest gen about the new places that are opening seemingly on a daily basis in London. Actually that is the point isnít it? So much is opening itís quite hard to keep track, some will do well, some will fail, but the Places listings on here make it easier to find these new places. Gazza, I know you read Scoopgen so are also aware of new places to go from there too.

Simon, if you are ever short of suggestions for places to go, a quick post on here or a beermail to myself or any of your other friends in London would give you an excellent response. Different top 10 lists, but some crossover too. Top 10 best new places etc etc

And in the same way that the Top 50 beers on Ratebeer wonít be to everyoneís liking, the Top 50 London places wonít be to everyoneís liking. Also there are plenty of not very good beers in the database, so there may be some run of the mill and also not very good pubs in the Places section. Doesnít mean weíll start deleting either section.

Foreign visitors I know welcome the extensive Places section in London giving them access to a whole load of places wherever they may be in the metropolis.

I went to 3 (new to me) pubs this week, all of which I would say are of interest and all I would go back to (Union Tavern - Westbourne Park has an excellent selection of the new London beers, Black Heart - Camden has an excellent bottle list and had the best beer of the day in Moor Hoppiness and The Cock Tavern - Hackney with four new beers from the Howlin Hops brewpub as well as several good drinking reprobates in attendance. Should I enter them if they are not on here? Yes. Do I delete something else? No.

Just out of curiosity, what prompted your post? Are you coming down to London again for a visit or are you merely wanting to stir up debate? (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Of course, what constitutes the best is also a matter of opinion. Many people like The White Horse at Parsons Green and the Southampton Arms in Kentish Town. Neither would make my London top 10.

As for pubs serving boring beer, well to the beer tourist who is in town for a few hours inbetween flights or thatís the only time spare away from family and friends, who havenít done the whole Fullers range, or Sheps range or whatever, something they can find half a mile away that will give them 4 new rates maybe all they can have/do.

Way too many mediocre pubs on that list IMO. I mean, Cheshire Cheese on Fleet St for example? Letís all have a laugh at that one...

I guess you put this in to provoke a reaction. Many people like the interior Gazza. Many visitors like getting through the Sam Smithís range. Their choice. Again as you state, that is a matter of your opinion. There are lots of opinions. Doesnít mean it should be deleted. Still not quite sure why it bothered you so much to start a thread though.

Iíd rather be drinking quality beer in sunny southern California but as far as England goes, London is number 1 by a long way. In fact the north of England is totally irrelevant these days.

I believe Thornbridge must be in London now, because it would be irrelevent if it wasnít. There is more to beer than Fullers. As far as places to drink. You get different ales from different parts of the UK, they all have good pubs and brewers. I now live in the Midlands and drink different beers that you wouldnít find in my home county of Yorkshire unless you went to a festival. Last night I had a pint of Backyard Bitter a very good beer from a microbrewery in my local town in a back street pub that specialises in real ale. I would have missed that if I just stuck to London or California.
