Why should I use Beer Ticks?

I donít understand. Since we have ratings, why do we need "ticks"? I thought maybe it would be a way to add a tick every time you drank it, but then I see that itís just a 1-5 star rating.

This seems to be completely redundant. Canít we just extrapolate a 1-5 tick rating based on 0.5 - 1.4, 1.5 - 2.4, 2.5 - 3.4, 3.5 - 4.4, 4.5 - 5.0 of my beer rating? Why do we need to have a separate tick rating for this?

If you are willing to write a rating for a particular beer, then there is no need to tick. If you donít want to write a rating but you want to keep track of beers youíve had and get a rough idea of how much you liked them then ticking is a nice feature.

This guy is the reason we have beer ticks as an option. Though, I donít think he has figured that out.

Whoa, surprised that many of his ratings have been allowed to remain, considering they are copy/paste of the same comment.

Personally, I like to use the tick system from my iPhone when I try a beer away from my computer. It allows me to track separately those beers that I have tried with a quick and dirty rating.

I then go back to the "beer ticks" tab on my computer, open the beer up, post my actual rating and then delete the tick.

I often find I get behind in my ratings and this just allows me to track which beers Iíve tried and not yet had the time to post a rating. Prior to this I was forgetting about beers that were getting lost in the shuffle.

I actual really like the feature and hope it sticks. I am pleased that they donít "encourage" it by allowing statistics or awards for ticks.

I like the feature. Itís not going anywhere. Not that I have any say. I just donít see any reason for it to ever disappear.

I think ticking is better for the causal drinkers, who want to keep track of their beers and give it some kind of rating, but might feel either intimated or dont like writing ratings.
