o we cracked open an ’07 NH Dragon’s Milk (not very impressive, by the by - very lacking in depth of flavor. Won’t be aging any more of these), and the wife makes herself a toasted bagel with lox and whitefish spread for dinner (doesn’t get more Jewish than that).
She takes one sip of the remainder of her snifter and hands the glass over to me. "These don’t go together," she says, quite accurately.

When my wife and I got married, just over ten years ago.
all she drank was wine and miller lite. On a recen business
trip to
Calagary her boss told me she kept bitching about the beer.
Saying "don’t these people believe in ales"!

Sure - something either relatively light to wash it down, something smoked to act as a balance, something big and hoppy to cut through all the smoke, or something sour/tart to do likewise as counterbalance.

I let my wife take a sip of St. Bernardus Abt. 12 which I’d been lucky enough to receive on a trade. She couldn’t even bring herself to swallow it, and swore shortly thereafter that she could taste the unmistakable "essence of cockroach".
I still (foolishly) share the occasional sip of something special with her in the hopes that she’ll one day develop a taste for it, as she does like the taste of chocolate (and sometimes imperial) stouts... who knows?

My wife drinks Chardonnay and Champagne, but will always try what I am drinking (especially if I am raving about something). She always goes to tastings with me and does all the sampling, too. She is a huge help in the department of color of the beer (I am color blind).
She is also eyeing the bottle of Westy 12 I am saving for my 40th Bday
