A short walk from U4 Stadtpark stop, around the corner from the Opera. Best feature is upstairs non-smoking designation, with small 6-place bar but 2 dozen dark wooden tables. Small flafscreen TV over bar.
Downstairs has long S-shaped dark wood bar with a brass footrail. Tall wooden barstools. Some tall and some low wooden tables with view out to adjacent street and into chrome brewhouse at far end of bar. Dark wood overhead 12’ ceiling with low level lighting, 4 flafscren TV showing sports (mostly English footbal) without sound. CD tunes range from folk to Rock & Roll to Hip Hop. Ashtrays everywhere downstairs, with locals typically smoking and tourists not.
Food menu includes Wierner Schnitzel @9€ and mains of veal, pork, steak qnd chicken. Burger is 15€. Starters, soups and sides from 5-10€. meat dishes looked good.
Comfortable place with clean, flavorful, and tasty house beers.

Despite being centrally located, this is quite ’far’ from the metro stations, and the crowds don’t help, but nothing worth complaining about really. A cool, ’typical’ sports pub on the inside with several screens and kettles to set it apart from the crowd. Relaxed atmosphere. 3 regular beers plus 6 specials/seasonals. A lot of the seasonals are American-style beers, very well executed -a welcome thing for the region. Relatively high beer prices but this IS central Vienna and you can order 0.1l of most beers. Quality service, attentive, friendly and they speak good English. Had one of the weekly specials - angus beef cordon bleu with sunflower seed oil potato salad - damn good, especially the cordon, but pricey. They have good wifi and let’s put it this way. You’re crazy if you miss it!

Can’t believe I forgot to review this place. Were in Vienna for just 3 days, went here 3 times. Near the Opera house, a good chunk of outdoor seating, and a nice, cozy (always packed) indoor area. Hop Devil in Viena was a little surreal, but my palate welcomed it. Food and service were both great. Outdoor has extendable awnings that were a HUGE bonus when it utterly poured sheets of rain for a couple of hours.

The best brewpub I visited in Vienna. Good location close to the city centre, and good beers. It seemed to be nice inside, but the weather was good so I stayed outside. Definately a place I’m going back to the next time I’m visiting Vienna.

Nice place in the centre of Vienna. Not all staff memebers where friendly, most of them were though. We sat outside had some food. Standaard german/austria food. Lots of meat and chips for a low price. Beer quality is good, definately after a week of standard austrian supermarket beers.

A nice brewpub in the centre of Vienna. In terms of beers, the place is definately the best brewpub in Vienna. However, there are hardly any bottled beers available.
The place is often crowded, which combined with the american style decorior and televisions, creates occasionally an sports bar atmosphere. The waitresses may not be very polite, but at least they’re rather pretty.

A nice restaurant/brewpub on the south side of the First District and quite cheap given the area. Low ceilings and smokey were the big drawbacks for me. There also only appeared to be a few beers on the menu. Food was good value and the Victory Hop Devil IPA was a must try if you are in Vienna.

(Visited 04/2009): This brewpub is located toward the south end of Vienna off of Krugerstraße near the Stadtpark. Not too terribly far from the subway so it is accessible from the Danube port. There is parking on the street immediately in front of the building as well.
There was a soccer game going on during our visit so the inside was absolutely packed with smoking patrons with no air conditioning. The brewpub is two levels with a bar on each. The lower level bar has a large chalkboard showing what beers are on tap, and there are high tables for seating. The rest of the place has table seating, and there is a patio out front, which is where we ended up.
The beer selection is decent. They have around 6 available and they seem to be more of an American influence than German/Austrian. Amber, Stout, IPA etc. The beers were slightly above average. We didn’t try the Hop Devil because we assumed it was a guest tap...what are the odds?
Service was about what we expected for the region, coupled with the place being overflowed with raucous soccer fans. Our beers arrived fairly quickly once we were finally noticed and our check came shortly after we were able to get the server’s attention to ask for it.
We did not try any food on this visit.
Overall I enjoyed the experience and beer at 7 Stern more than at 1516, which seemed to have much more of a touristy feel. Still I would try to visit here again when it was less hectic to enjoy their beers in a more relaxed environment.

I have been to 1516 several times. I think that perhaps there is a bit of turnover in staff but otherwise it is a good place. I was surprised to be able to drink Hop Devil there as a guest tap. Also drank a Cream Ale which I have not had before in a brew pub.
Check it out, it is worth a visit. Good location.
