Start with looking at some photos on this one. Theyíll tell the story better than a review ever could. This place is carved into pre-existing territory that was never designed for al fresco tippling, and thatís absolutely what makes it so cool. This is light industrial land on the shoulders of the lake, with the B-G Trail running right alongside. Theyíve taken over an old warehouse space and created an outdoor beer garden with some light landscaping and mix and match outdoor furniture.
Inside, the same thing appears to have happened. The house crew must have hammered everything together, judging by the solid (if rather rough and ready) carpentry everywhere. Itís still a newer place, but it looks more like it just happened over time than like it was made from scraps--even though thereís a reasonable likelihood that it was made from scraps.
But that doesnít stop the place, or even slow it down at all. Thereís a sense of humor to the whole megilla--the staff is easy-going, funny, and ready to welcome you into what they clearly think of as a proper place to drink a beer. You too should think of this as a proper place to drink a beer. They pour good stuff, their own and guest taps. They have live music regularly, and good stuff playing on the hi-fi when there isnít a band playing out in the, uh, carport, or whatever it is.
This definitely in no way resembles a glossy downtown spot for beers. Itís a slightly goofy but completely sincere and eminently competently run taproom. Itís gonna be a regular spot for me for sure.
