23rd Street Brewery has a sport-bar type atmosphere. Kind of a generic place and beer was average. Might be a nice place to watch sports, but I would definitely recommend Free State over 23rd St.

Brewer was hard at work, suspended above the main bar, so +1 for atmosphere. This is solidly a college place. Beers are mostly unadventurous, with the collaborations a welcome exception. Food is filling pub fare. Server gave me a sampler tray wiyh one missing, but didn’t kniw the missing beer until it was pointed out. Staff kept bugging me with the check, hurrying my ratings.

Visited in September 2010. This is a college town brewpub staffed with college students. The interior is somewhat dark, though nicely decorated. Our service was pleasant, the food good, and beer average to above average.

Its a sad state of affairs when the food tastes better than the beers. There are notable exceptions to this rule, but they usually involve worse than usual food items rather than better than average beers. Still, there is no better place in Lawrence (besides Phog Allen) to watch a KU basketball game. Keeps me coming back.

Pretty generic feeling place, complete with generic food and generic beer. The beer was not very good. I had a sampler of about 9 different beers for $9, I think. Good value, but the beers were lacking. Place was new, but had a run down feel to it, like nobody really cared. Service was nice, but not too enthusiastic.

Well, i quite liked this place. friendly to those new to craft beer and not too diluted to the veteran. good number of taps, food was a bit greasy but pretty tasty, and friendly staff. and i wish i remembered her name but my server was a fox, god she was hot, and somewhat knowledgeable too. A recommended stop before you hit Freestate..

I liked this place. pretty good selection of above average beers including an aged imperial stout, friendly bar tenders, who seem to like their jobs. Good value and worth a stop.

The atmosphere of 23rd street is almost like a chain restaurant. Olive green walls, wood paneling, etc. The beer selection isn’t bad but then again it’s not extraordinary, either. Likewise the food can be a bit bland. Service is usually solid and you won’t have to wait to get in. It’s tough to compete with the other brewery across town.

OK beer. Decent food. Seemed to be searching for an identity.

Visited the place with beastiefan2k, as it is his hangout. Very quite when we were there. 2 other dudes around the bar, and maybe one group at a table. A simple, large sport bar looking brewpub in a college town. Plenty of blonde college girls for the waitstaff. They seemed to be friendly enough. Knowledgeable of the brewer’s tedious schedule. All of the beers here were all very well made. As good as the beer at Free State (of which receives all of the credit in town). Pub chips were tasty and addicting. I would definitely go back to this place. 12sept09
