74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 mcberko (134) Vancouver, British Columbia | May 13, 2013 An upscale restaurant just around the corner from the brewery and shop. Very good food and good service, but the prices are quite inflated -- even on the bottles (Oude Kriek Intense Red was 16€ despite it being 6€ around the corner in the shop!). A few great beers on tap that are, I think, exclusive to the restaurant including the Faro, Oude Lambik and Kriekenlambik -- and if you’re like me and want to try all of 3 Fonteinen’s beers, it’s worth stopping for. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 greenclansman (50) Nicosia, Cyprus | April 22, 2013 Very nice brewery with amazing beers. Nice location just out of Brussels, with very friendly people. I was there during the Toer de Geuze 2013. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 dasdan (10) , Belgium | April 21, 2013 visited during the Tour de Geuze 04/21/2013 | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 womencantsail (390) Garbage Grove, California | March 30, 2013 Quaint restaurant/location in the city of Beersel. It’s up a bit of a hill, which wasn’t too much fun in the rain, but it was worth it. Of course bottles of gueuze available to drink as well as some rarer treats like the faro, oude lambik, and kriekenlambik. Didn’t eat, but the menu looked great. Some vintage and special bottles available, too. Service was typically Belgian (read: slow), but a pleasant experience otherwise. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 nbutler11 (301) Phoenix, Arizona | March 18, 2013 Place Rating #300, and boy did I have to go through hell to find this place. One train, one tram, one bus (twice) and then wait in the snow for an hour until they open since they can decide to change their hours on a whim. That said, it was worth it. Oude Kriek on cask was sublime. Faro was excellent. Not a ton to offer that you can’t get in bottles elsewhere, but the food is delicious (made from their beer in many cases), and it’s a dusty place where you can just enjoy the beer and not worry about anyone there for another reason. Amen. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 Kristophe (61) , Sweden | February 7, 2013 Awesome staff who opened up the shop for us when it was past opening hours. Didn’t try the food, wanna go back. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Huhzubendah (30) Washington DC | November 20, 2012 I made it to Belgium, and 3 Fonteinen was right at the top of my list.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is fantastic. Quaint and serene, spacious and inviting. Service with a smile.
I spoke with Armand for a few hours about the brewery, lambic, etc. while enjoying a 1997 Oude Gueze (and a few others as well). The Kriek, lambic, kriekenlambik, faro are all must tries if you are fortunate enough to make it here.
Passion, tradition, quality, it’s all here. My experience was so amazing here that I returned for another lengthy visit in lieu of visiting some of Belgium’s best breweries. That will have to wait for a subsequent visit. Overall, this was simply mind blowing. A bucket list kind of experience for me. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 Scopey (271) Croydon, England | October 14, 2012 A visit to the 3 Fonteinen restaurant is an essential visit for lambic lovers. Now that Armand’s tasting room is closed next to the shops, this is the place to come for draft 3 Fonteinen in Beersel. The place itself is a large traditional restaurant mostly full of the over-60s crowd. I was glad to have had the oude lambic and faro, but was fairly underwhelmed by the rest of the selection which consisted of <10 bottles. Yes there is some old stuff and hommage, but not even the full standard range. Food was traditional and flavoursome and service attentive. I am glad I visited, but am unlikely to return anytime soon, other than to visit the 3 Fonteinen shop down the street. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 caesar (224) Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | August 4, 2012 Visited on friday afternoon. Quite large place, pretty sober interior. Like a lot of belgian bars and restaurants. Small selection of 3 fonteinen products. Decent service. Food was ok-ish. Boring bread. Rating this place truly as the restaurant itself, the brewery + shop (of which the latter will be closed for the upgrade of the brewery) are of much higher value. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 20/20 gEUS (34) Linden, Belgium | April 14, 2012 This place has never lost the heritage image; it is still a very down to earth bar and restaurant, made by and for local people but serving the world class beers of 3 Fonteinen. Great local cuisine and plenty of beer dishes. There’s always a very vivid atmosphere and a pleasure to visit every time again (Used to live in the area) |
