Visited on Saturday 24th Sept. I used to drink in here when I was a student many years ago, and it was a fine pub then, so it was great to find that it hadnít changed. We easily found a table even though it was a Saturday Night, good selection of beers (including draught Anchor Steam Beer @ £3.40 a pint!!!...no! I didnít try it) Service was fast and friendly, didnít have food so canít score it on that. 4 cask beers available on our visit.
Visited the 24th July 2016 - nice standard pub on the new town of Edinburgh, near to the train session. Central solid bar. Nice beer selection with some typical things, for a good price. Service is super friendly and will advice you. Good food. Nice place to have a stop.
I am a regular here. I visit once every two or three years without fail. Classic island bar design, on the Rose Street crawl, depressed by cheap lighting and still a bastion of cask ales - though the brilliantly clever Alchemy 80/- lit up this visit. Would still benefit no end from the presence of an old-fashioned landlord. Improving bar food but please guys, bury the fishcake under a nuclear waste pile.
Our last port of call on Friday 24th Oct 2014. I liked it and was surprised it has scored so poorly on this site. Clean, bright and impressive Victorian decor, with a fantastic central serving island. Cask ales on my visit were fine and the staff friendly enough. I suggest some of the older reviewers should return for another look and beer or three: six different cask ales available when I went.
Traditional pub in the city centre with an island bar and a rather good selection of Scottish micros on draught. Nice and quiet atmosphere on the Friday and Sunday afternoons we visited. The fish and chips one of the waitors was carrying to a table smelled absolutely rancid though ...
Traditional type of pub in the city centre again fitted out ornately, with lovely plasterwork, mahogony and a big island bar. Beers from Scottish micro brewers to the fore, like its sister pub, The Guildford. Eating appears to be upstairs. Decent pub.
Visited this pub on the Great Graig Pubcrawl Tour 23/4-2012.
A traditionel city center pub, with a large bar in the middle of the pub, and tables around at the walls. I think this place more is a drinking pub, but itīs possible have traditionel pub food here. There are 5 cask pumps with a good range of UK beers. Friendly staff, nice deko and on the day I visited there was a lot of seniors, so I felt a bit young :-)
