Visited September 2013. Somehow I forgot to rate this one then.
Brewery tour started 2 pm on Friday and as it was the only tour on that day the place was absolutely packed. It was so full of people it wasn’t fun anymore. Yes, there’s free beer but still I chose not to wait until the tour starts but headed to the brewpub some miles east. I’m sorry but it was a disappointment. Fortunately they had that brewpub otherwise it would’ve been 86 miles drive for nothing.

Tour was at the brewery itself, north of Abita Springs LA. 8 beers on tap including all the regulars, two different ’cause’ brews, and a seasonal. Ambiance is awesome. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, though they were a bit understaffed on the July day we visited. Beer is - FREE. Open bar, you pour your own, as much as you want from an hour before the tour to an hour after the tour. FANTASTIC! No food, but great apparel and glassware available for purchase. The tour itself was with an assistant brewer, nice guy that was knowledgeable but only took us into the brewhaus and tank areas. We were not allowed to see the bottling lines, which was disappointing but understandable. HIGHLY recommended if you’re in the New Orleans area (and way, way, way better than the Tabasco tour to the southwest).

Wow! How is it possible that I am the FIRST to rate this brewery?!?!? This brewery has been around since 1986, long before I could drink, and long before the "microbrew" craze hit the US. Abita quickly became the "offical/unofficial" beer of New Orleans (way more sold than Dixie beer, even blackened voodoo). Their beers are brewed using the crystal clear waters of Abita Springs, in a tiny little town north of New Orleans. Their beers are perfectly suited for the climate there (i.e. Hot and Muggy). Well balanced and easy drinking! Not to mention the brewpubs amazing food ! But this is a beer site... Did I mention how much the company contributes to the city of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast??? Check out their SOS (Save Our Shore, Unfiltered Pils), and Restoration Pale Ale!
