Taproom tied to Sierra Blanca and Rio Grande with the brewery east of town. Small system in-house where Ben brews house beers. Flat-screen TVs without sound over bar, showing sports but not with obnoxious audio like in sports bars. CD music at comfortable levels. Full bar. dark grey and maroon color scheme. 10 taps. Tiny brewhouse is visible from the bar. Windows to the parking lot and the neighbors. Second level lot where bands used to play among the malt sacks.
U-shaped bar 12-top with embedded cooler discs. Tall tables in adjacent lounge area. Maroon concrete floor. Some black and white prints of brewhouse. Other framed prints of fruit. Half-peaked ceiling of wood with narrow windows at top.
Half-dozen outdoor patio tables for 50 where smokers congregate and some mid-day sun is possible.
Mug Clug for $50 and your 22-oz mug at pint prices.

This is an interesting set up. There is one building but two restaurants sharing the same kitchen but with separate signs and entrances. Iím told that this is done for liquor license purposes, since the ABQ Brew Pub side can serve liquor but the other side (Uptown Sports Bar) can not. The tap lists were identicaly as far as I could see. They are owned by the same people. I guess I donít know enough about Rio Grande and Sierra Blanca. Are they even different companies or are they both just product lines of the same place?
To add to the mystique, they actually do have a small brewing system on site here. As suspected most of the big name stuff like the Alien Amber, the pale, IPA, and the Abbey Beverage stuff (the monks arenít actually brewing anything yet, itís made by Rio Grande) is all trucked in. They do however plan to do some experimental stuff on the little in house brewery. This part isnít confusing, itís par for the course (see BJs, Oggis, and any number of other brewpub chains) but the twist is that the sports bar has itís own line of beers. Iím highly skeptical though. Their house beers include a black IPA which is on tap now (coincidentally there is a Sierra Blanca Black IPA on as well) and a peach IPA that is in fermenters. The bartender first claimed that they develop the recipes next door at the sports bar and then they get made in larger batches at the brewery. What ever. Minus maybe this peach IPA I donít see a need to add a beer listing to this place.
Sitting out on the patio is very nice on a sunny afternoon. They have this little area under a large tree with a half a dozen tables. I went with the southwestern Philly Cheesesteak. It was pretty good. I think they used the cheese whiz on it, but it wasnít entirely clear through all the peppers. It was greasy like a good Philly cheese steak but had a bunch of peppers on it too. The curly fries were overkill as the sandwich was filling. The beers are available by the flight where you choose any four at a time. They are delivered on this fancy looking holder. They arenít overly good unfortunately.
Service and pricing are decent. The food and the patio would be the main reason for stopping back in.

Sports bar type atmosphere. Large u-shaped bar with glass chillers built in to the bar top and multiple TVs directly above the bar. Decent food menu with reasonable prices. The beer is average to good. One thing that did stand out was the impy stout did go very nice with a slice of cherry cheesecake for desert. This was actually suggested by the waitress after I ordered the impy stout and was pondering over the desert menu. Staff was very friendly and responsive.

Located in strip mall hell but has a nice dark, proper bar feel on the inside. If you sit at the bar, there are glass chillers, which are gimmicky but really neat and effective--supplanting the temptation to freeze the glasses. The black IPA and the impy were both nice.

A new pub location for, obviously, Sierra Blanca beers, and they also have a couple small-batch one-offs that they brew on site. Not too familiar with the Sierra Blanca amalgamation of beers, but seemed like all the regulars were on tap, and maybe a new beer or two or a couple seasonals, not really sure, but there are plenty to choose from either way. Beer quality sort of all over the board, but nothing really off-putting or flawed. The effort here is to create a holistic pub in the vein of Chama River with a high end selection of all beverages and interesting food, and overall they succeed, though not surprisingly not living up to their apparent role model. The plus though is that itís not as expensive as Chama, including a bunch of great happy hour deals. Setting is upscale sports bar. Another nice spot in ABQ.

This is a great new brewpub in uptown Albuquerque. It has a slight sports bar-ish feel to it, a large wrap-around bar with 4 TVs directly over it. There are small cooling discs on top of the bar to keep your beer cold for you. Pretty large tap list- definitely >10, like 15-20. A mix of good beers to ok to not-so-good, but mostly good stuff. They have your typical pub fare; I got the wings which were very tasty. Great great deals though, some of the best Iíve seen. On Mondays, all beers are $2. Happy hour is M-F like 3-6 pm, $1 off all beers, half price appetizers and tapas. On Wed they have half off all of their wine bottles. So if you time your visit, it is a great deal! I think they have other specials too that I canít remember. Bottom line, a fun chill place to enjoy some good beer for cheap!
