Lovely old brown bar with a small courtyard off a quiet square away from the tourist center. Kind of run down in a nice way, with a lot of memorabilia on display and zeppelins hanging from the ceiling in one room as a nod to the bars history. Their own Zeppelin beer is solid, and the bottle list offers a well chosen selection of Belgian beers (nothing that interesting for the big ticker) and a decent lambic selection. Note that opening hours have changed, 16:00 on every weekday apart from Wednesday when itís 12:00.
A gezellig place. Not easy to find but luckily it was close to the Zeemanshuis hotel where we were staying. A good selection of beers and friendly hosts. They have their own beer brewed for them, Zeppelin. Apparently the building was bombed by a Zeppelin in the 1st world war. You can spot 2 Zeppelin s on the ceiling in 1 room.
Seems I havenít rated this before... Visited many times about a decade ago, so Iíll have to rely on memory since I havenít been there since that time. At that time, this was quite an exciting place to visit for a beer geek: the guy who was apparently responsible for the beer selection back then, was a passionate (and in fact, quite funny) beer geek with whom it was always a pleasure to chat. Cosy atmosphere - though it could get quite cold in winter sometimes... Beer selection was and hopefully still is extensive, with many regional and traditional Belgians. Writing about this makes me curious how it is now, Iíll revisit this place in the near future, for sure.
Pretty much unchanged in the 18 years Iíve been coming here. Nice atmosphere .Good beer beer menu. Well worth the trek from the centre.
Update: getting very expensve and like Kraddel, had the wrong beer served - the regular sweet Boon kriek rather than the oude version.
