84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 PaulUnwin (96) Pinellas Park, Florida | May 7, 2012 Been to the Alcove on my last 2 visits to Gainesville and I love it. It’s asmall bar and because of that always seems busy, very clean and has modern decor. Beers are always pretty solid and theres plenty of Restaurants around as it’s right downtown, I’m not sure if they serve food, although I’m not even sure theres room for a kitchen!! | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 HonusWagner (11) Florida | April 3, 2010| Updated May 27, 2011 The tiniest little bar in all the land, Alcove is a welcome addition to Gainesville’s often quite pathetic beer scene. The ambiance is a mixed bag; it’s a really, really nice looking bar with good local art displayed and rotating on the walls and a chalkboard set up high enough above the bar to be easily seen, but the place gets super crowded with the hipper folks of Gainesville and can get kinda loud on the less fortunate days. Staff are super nice, understand their selections, and help the customers get the beer they want.
This place is my go-to in Gainesville. Half pints are extremely nice to have for a ticker like myself, and the staff is extremely willing to put up with me which is nice. The beer selection is often very good, and there are usually at least four or five solid options on draft. I do wish they would get some more Bell’s/Great Divide on draft but otherwise keep it up! |
