Visited February 2016 with beery friends. Oldstyle townpub, housing the Hoskins beer. Beers served in OK condition, pub placed just outside the city center. Nice atmosphere, local. Lovely fireplace and no wifi..

Apparently Hoskins’ only pub, the Ale Wagon is the sort of place your granddad would’ve loved (well not mine, as they were both rural Floridians and loved their whiskey... but I digress). Two separate areas will some light music in the background. Bare floors, and old fireplace that probably works in theory, and bags and bags of character. Hoskins beers won’t blow you away, but if you don’t love this place then you have no soul.

My first and last visit to Leicester, not a city I would recommend in terms of sightseeing. Started off at this old boozer that is definitely stuck in a time warp, the beer selection being from the Hoskins stable with a few guest ales thrown in. Service was quick and the beers drinkable but the atmosphere was non existent and I was glad to leave in all honesty. Mediocre is the word for this place.

This is an old fashioned pub just a few blocks from the station. As far as atmosphere goes if it ever got busy I could see it being a fun place. I certainly would not return just for the beer selection which mainly covers a number of Hoskins beers. If you’ve got the time stick your head in the door but don’t expect to find anything amazing besides a typical English pub thrown 70 years in the future.

Single rooomed street corner boozer harking from the 20’s or 30’s in architectural terms. I’ve never seen this place overly busy, but neither have I seen it empty. Service is efficient, beers from Hoskins. Carry out cartons available which I’ve employed for my train journey back south on occasion. A short 3 or 4 minute stroll from the Leicester London Road BR station.

On the widest street through the city centre it occupies a rounded corner building at a junction. The building has seen better days, both inside and out, but this adds to its charm. Inside the floor tiles are worn and some parts look like its under renovation, except the dust on some of the stepladders suggest its been under for quite some time. The furniture is simply and there’s no attempt to fill the floor space with them, most people prefer to sit against the walls in the long cushioned pews. There’s a fantastic original open fire at the end of the bar to the left as you walk in that provides some good heat on a cold day. Perhaps the downside to this place is the ’all eyes’ attitude of some of the regulars that make for an uncomfortable atmosphere, even the bartender stared at me without speaking as I perused what was actually a fairly good selection of ales.

Atmosphere like a graveyard, and very old clientèle, mostly suits. Service was fine. Beer was all from Hoskins which aren’t my cup of tea.

A nice classical boozer with 4-5 Hoskins beers and about 5-6 guest, quality service, lots of customers with a strong Midland accent. A beer festival was gonna have 30-35 casks in the 18th-19th of august weekend. One of the 5 or so must in Leicester and easy to reach.

Visited during Leicester Beer Festival 2005. Nice old fashioned corner pub with a great selection of the Hoskins beers plus several guests to choose from too.
