I am lucky enough to work and it seems like live 1.5 blocks from Ale Smith. I have gotten to know the whole crew rather well over the last year & a half and they are the nicest an most patient people (except OSAMA when he is eating his lunch) at all times and I should know, I bug them constantly. Now, the beer is hands down the best available and I only drink Ale Smith when in SD. The brewery just expanded, THANK GOD. I was getting tired of STONE taking all of my IPA, those bastards. When I first was introduced to Ale Smith I was trying all of the beers with quite enjoyment, until I was introduced to the best beer on the face of the planet Ale Smith IPA. Being so close to the brewery lends itself to some perks, such as getting the IPA the minute is is done and let me tell you fresh IPA is the best. All right, I better get off IPA or I will be here awhile. I really enjoy seeing all the different walks of life that come to Ale Smith, because due to such a friendly and laid back atmosphere it is easy to meet new people and discuss BEER as well as other interesting subjects. Come for the beer and come back because you will feel so welcome and the beer is OK to. Ale Smith will be expanding there hours soon and that will make a lot of people happy. I can’t tell you how many people, not knowing the hours come by only to be devastated and yes I mean devastated when they find out that they are not open for business. I feel for all of you and those days are numbered. I hope to see you all at Ale Smith in the future. For all of you out of townees, don’t be foolish. Come to Ale Smith if it is the only brewery you visit in SD.

This is a fantastic brewery it has charm, nuance, and the feeling that you are important. Everyone who has interest in beer should visit, from those who consume mass marketed garbage to the beer enthusiast. Peter Zien and the rest of the staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Go and try the beer fresh, get some unique little devil and stay for the conversation. Growlers and Growler fills are a great deal, though I do like to bottle age thier beers myself. Just went again losing count of how many times, these guys are amazingly friendly and here for us, the beer geeks.

There is a reason that Alesmith has always been my favorite brewery. Peter is unreal. He took time out of his busy schedule to shoot the shit with me. I cannot say enough good words about Peter, the staff and the brewery. Oh yeah and the beers on tap are incredible. Speedway stout...oh my.

If I die, I might want to die and go to Alesmith. After years of being away, I came back and found they used the unit to the left as their tasting room. Great idea. The bar is nice, the beer is fresh and great, Also, you need to have a beer with SmokePot23. He is a neighborhood legend around those parts. Magic, bro.

I visited early in 2007 on a day when they were technically closed. They were, however, brewing and so Peter allowed me and a friend in. I bought a special aged bottled beer they had (2004 Speedway Stout) and a couple of their regulars, too. I also got a sticker and a T shirt! They let us have some freebie tasters and chatted with us for a few minutes while I watched them brew. I am amazed that some of the best beer I have ever had comes from this fairly small operation. May the hop gods bless them and the malt angels watch over them.

Alesmith makes the best beer on the planet...While I have not had every beer on the earth...yet, I feel that strongly about their beers. The tasting room is everything that a brewery tasting room should be...loud, packed, friendly tasting staff (Abbey rocks!) and tasters at $1 per. WOW! We just need them to get a bigger facility so they can barrel age more of their best stuff. BA Wee Heavy, Speedway Stout, etc. Peter and his crew are the best in SD!

Visiting Alesmith was worth the entire trip to So Cal. Not much to the place, really; just a tiny brewery with a small, plywood bar. Peter was extremely welcoming and gracious. Terrific tour. Wonderful, free samples of incredible beer. No food.

Very nice bartenders. Cheap one dollar four ounce sample pours. An excellent way to try great beer for very cheap. Also close to Green Flash Brewery.
