I guess it is just nice to be able to go there and get my growler filled once in a while. The guys are always nice and helpfull and they greet you right away as soon as you walk up. Peter is one of the coolest cats in the business, and he has introduced me to many styles I didn’t know existed. In fact, he told me about ratebeer.com.

Quaint atmosphere and excellent staff. Great selection of both beer and merch. Their space is stuffed to the gills with equipment.

This is MY BREWERY, just three miles from work and about three miles from home, I’ve been making weekly/bi-weekly stops here for beer going on five years. My favorite session brew is Anvil ESB with Nautical Nut Brown a close second. My favorite BIG brew is B.A. Oldnumbskull. I love the IPA and my favorite seasonal is Evil Dead Red. I know it was labor intense, but the retired Blarney Stoned was fantastic and I wish they would bring it back. I have rated 13 of the 13 active brews and 6 of the 8 retired brews.
Late flash…AleSmith is RateBeer brewer of the year for the third year in a row. Damn Peter, you must be doing something right.
Beer Geeks I have met at AleSmith: Eyedrinkale, argo0, hopscotch, scraff, Vac, SDbruboy, DarkElf, cquiroga, cb, TAR, Hairofthedog, DaSilky1, majicbill, egajdzis, IrishBoy, WeeHeavySD, Smokepot23, wetherel, zug4abby not to mention OldNumbskull, akinm, JackPumpkin and jesso.

Located in your average industrial complex it’s a small packed with equipment brewery. There is a tasting bar in the back next to the cold box. Peter and Co. are always around to pour a sample or just chat. You wont find a nicer bunch of guys.

THe brewery rules. I got to go on the tour which was very cool. Ive also gone for some of the very cool get togethers of beer sampling and cheese/cracker tasting. I loved stopping by, only thing that made it difficult was the hellish traffic. The times i got to go, it was way worth it for the knowledge, beer, and overall good time.

This is just a brewery, not a brewpub but they do have a small counter with 8 taps for tastings and growler purchases. You have to pay for the tasters by the way. You can pretty much just walk in and get a brewery tour. For the quality of the beer alone, this is an essential stop.

This place is a very small operation. I walked in expecting a large room with merchandise and tasting room. I basically walked into the brewer’s office. The staff was more than happy to accomdate me. I was brought back to the tasting area where they had about 8 beers on. Sample sizes were generous. Unfortunately, the were served in plastic Dixie cups. Definitely well worth the visit. Top-notch beer and top-notch staff.

I walk in the door, and am greeted by Peter. Friendly, regular guy who mentioned he had just been on RateBeer before I arrived. Perhaps he doesn’t realize he has Jimi Hendrix stature amongst beer geeks. We chatted briefly about the beers and possible future East Coast distribution (please!). Then I was turned over to Alesmith dude (Brad?). Friendly, talked up the beers and the San Diego beer scene while pouring samples (9 available). Very cool. While I was their, they lowered the bay door in the back because they were pitching yeast. If you are in San Diego, you’ve just got to swing by for a visit.
