Stopped by on a recent trip to SD as I am a big fan. Tasting room was empty when we got there, Green Flash was having a huge event the same day. Two guys working, one was for sure more outgoing then the other as far as discussing the beers. I will agree though with others that have been there, the plastic tasting cups and plastic pint cups are a HUGE turn off. With what these guys charge for their beer, they should be ashamed of themselves! To serve pints and tasters in plastic is a crime! Even though the prices were good, doesn’t excuse this faux pas.

Quite far out of town set in an industrial estate is the infamous Alesmith. Again this was one of my favourite breweries that I was really looking forward to visiting. As I found through my beer travels through the U.S is that in general brewery tap rooms tend to be disappointing.Sure it’s great to see were these great beers come from but most breweries never make much of an effort to make their tap rooms comfortable and welcoming. Alesmiths tap room was quite clean and modern efficient service and a few tables and a few stools despite the large amount of people there. The selection available again was not anything that you can’t find in good bars in San diego. Overall if you are a fan of this brewery you will have to visit!

In a busy strip mall, no places to sit, very crowded and uncomfortable. Their available drafts were basically everything they bottle in addition to a good pale ale, a terrible porter, and an ok version of the barrel aged speedway that was to thin and hot at the same time. If they have a Speedway variant on tap, come to tick that but that’s about all your going to do.

Average looking building in an industrial park. You walk through what looks like an office to get to their warehouse which houses an awesome bar. They used to pour 1.50 tasters which may be the best value i’ve ever gotten for craft beer. Their staff is nice, friendly and knowledgeable.

Visted on Friday18/04/14 around 2.30pm.
Had been really looking forward to Alesmith and the chance to try some ’one off’ brewery only beers, namely Speedway varieties, I left disappointed!
Located in an idustrial unit, the interior is pretty swish with about 6 or 7 tables, all taken, whilst we were there.
Service was very good, the only fail for me was the lack of ’interesting’ beers on tap.
There were only 2 beers I’d not had before, just plain Speedway on the Speedway front.
Nice place but from a tickers point of view really not worth the effort unless you can get some advance info on whats on!

Small little tasting room, all regulars on tap, a few specials, tasters were cheap. Good service, was just hoping for a bit more selection.

Nice place to sit down and enjoy all their regulars. Tasters of every beer is cheap. Atmosphere is subdued.. And you can see them working on there next great beer in the back. Probably one of the few places to try all their speedway variants... When available.

A quaint little storefront tasting room, but to be honest, for a guy from Chicago - where Alesmith is unavailable - it was awesome to finally sample some of the offerings of this reknowned brewer.

My first stop of the day is a place I have wanted to visit for years. Entering the door I am greeted by a surprisingly small tasting room, reminds me of the old Tröegs tasting room. I would have expected it to be bigger, I bet this place is a mad house on days they have limited beers on. Atmosphere was pretty laid back. People enjoying their beers at the bars and over by the barrels they have lined up on the front wall. Service was pretty good. I had to wait a bit for one of my beers but all in all I never had to wait more than a minute or so for any of my beers. Quality was really high. The space feels bigger than it actually is thanks to their staging and they offer lots of swag and glasses to take home with you. Selection was a little disappointing in that they didn’t really have anything on that I hadn’t had before, just all of the regular beers and four seasonal offerings, still great beers but I was hoping for at least one or two new beers. Prices were more than reasonable. Overall a really nice space for a world class brewery. I will definitely return the next time I am in the area.
