Finally made it over to Alewife, and I have to say, it pretty much lives up to the hype. Nice, big, open space. We sat at the bar on a Sunday afternoon, there were plenty of seats available. For some reason I was expecting Brooklyn/Manhattan style crowds, but this was much more pleasant. Nice, well selected draft list with a bunch from in (and around - looking at you Westchester) the 5 boroughs (Singlecut, Peekskill, Finback, LIC Beer Project, Other Half, etc.). My food was solid, and additionally, Iíve heard good things, so it might be better other times. Friendly enough bartender. Prices are standard for NYC. Would love to have a place like this near me, especially if it is always this level of crowded. Kind of reminds me of what RnH use to be like when it was a better beer bar. Guessing that has something to do with Patrick Donagher?

Huge 2 storey place with high ceilings and well lighted spaces. I visited during the Queens beer week and the menu was dominated by singlecuts, finback etc. Small food menu, a bit disinterested barmaid, still a nice place to go.

Visited after Transmitter and to grab lunch before heading to the other LIC breweries. Saturday brunch menu was available and with the usual fare such as all day breakfast type of stuff. Not bad. Good selection of beers - nothing too out there but happy to find the likes of Other Half and Barrier. The lady behind the bar was friendly and service was good considering she was clearly busy working the bar and tables by herself! A little dark and gloomy may be its only fault.

I really enjoyed my first visit here today. I had to be in the area early on a Sunday morning...Alewife is one of the few places open before noon (11AM for brunch). Great atmosphere...obviously empty at this hour...but that give me a chance to get to know the place better. I also had a great server named Leeza...very helpful with the beers...and very enjoyable with the conversation. I had 2 flights of four...plus maybe 2-3 other samples Leeza introduced me too. They feature many unique beers...international, US, and especially local. My favorite of the visit was Finbackís Miasma Black IPA...but also enjoyed the Empire White Aphro Witbier with lavender, and the Big Alice Smoked Saison. Although I didnít eat (had just eaten prior)...I sat next to others that did...and the food looked and smelled great...definitely wonít make that same mistake on my next visit. LIC is a great place to spend an afternoon of evening...at the Alewife...but also Rockaway, Big Alice, & Transmitter. I highly recommend Alewife Queens...worth a special trip...and visit the Beer Closet across the street for some bottles & growler fills.

This is a great neighborhood bar in LIC. Good food, grassy great beer menu, 4samplers for 10$, great service (thanks Lisa). For beer week, they had a cool little food and beer pairing menu for 20 bucks. A must in this beer rich part of Queens.

This place is pretty good in my mind. It is quite large, and the two times I have been there, there was plenty of space to sit. If this bar was in another city, it would almost certainly be filled to the brim (Iím looking at your DC and your crowded bars). The beer selection is quite good, focused mostly on US craft beer, but having some Belgian, Swiss, and Dutch beers. I didnít look at the bottle list (but really, buying bombers in a bar is pretty pointless, unless the bomber is proper rare). The service was friendly, but the bartenders seemed to not come to our table nearly enough to top off our beers. The food is quite good, and I would argue that it is actually a pretty good value. Worth a stop. A Ratebeerian would certainly find something that he or she has not yet had (I know for a fact because one of the beers there had 0 ratings on RB).

A very solid bar in a pretty convenient part of Queens. Nice draft selection that highlights a good number of local breweries. Typical NYC prices (so a little high) but they do have a great happy hour special on select drafts, which can be very good. The food is quite tasty and good value. Efficient and friendly service. The sports bar vibe in here can be a little grating. But other than that this is a really good spot. Worth checking out if you are in the area.

Years ago I was able to visit the other location in Baltimore so it made sense to stop here too. This was the fourth stop of the evening, after the three breweries in Long Island City. Itís about half way between Rockaway and Transmitter. Nice place all around. Kind of dark but the service was friendly, there was music playing, and they gave some free tasters of things, so all around Iíd say it was a good stop. Thatís not to mention the fact that theyíve got a lot of locals on tap that might be new to you. This was also my first taste of some of the newer breweries around like Single Cut (even though that was the next stop on the itinerary) and Other Half. I donít know if Iíll be back in the immediate area again but if I do find myself there Iíll most likely stop in here.
