I’ll admit it, I was pretty impressed with this shop. Compared to the Swedish or Norwegian monopolies, Alko has reasonable opening hours and better prices. The selection wasn’t exactly wide, but there was some great stuff on the shelf, including Westv XII and some special relases from Nögne Ö (why doesn’t Sweden get this stuff?). I could only find one or two bottles from each of the major Finnish craft breweries, but I’m guessing they rotate? I was buying Finnish souvenir-beers (souvibeers!) so I didn’t really look at the prices for foreign stuff, I’m guessing they’re rather high, but the prices for Finnish stuff were not bad (for the nordic world).

Wonderful selection but expensive like Finland is...found some great Nogne O and local Finnish brews, and I was equally impressed with the American selections but of course declined...

Fantastic place. I like going here just for checking out what they have. And I usually walk out with a new beer! Friendly people and wine cellar in the basement. Affordable prices when it comes to (high-end) wines, but the beers could be a bit cheaper.

Alko’s special store with a lot of products not found at their other stores. Mostly wine, but a few beers as well, especially rare one-off types. At least one of the salespersons present will know at least something about beer. The bad thing is the price. Everything is expensive, most very much so, some outrageously. There’s a reason why some of the bottles last a long, long time there.

Nice selection of beers, some of the stuff in there really surprised me. In the end only got Finlandia Strong Sahti and Koff Porter. The cashier spoke good English and was quite chatty about the sahti we’ve bought, giving some warnings too :D.

Has definitely got point of resemblance with Vinmonopolet in Norway. You go here to find the strongest and often the best of Finnish brews, including the traditional Sahti stuff. Added is a fine mix of Danish, Dutch, American, German, and Belgian beers. This one should be the best in the Alko chain and has always got something special to offer. Central location (visited, 03.02.2011).

Seems to keep most of the rarer beers in big amounts and also usually has the sahti’s available. Seems to be storing a lot of special wines and the whisky shelf looked quite good compared to the whisky departments at my local alko’s. Good and helpful service.

An inviting Beer Store, at least compared to the Swedish counterparts in terms of Systembolaget. Selection was good with a lot of beers that one can not find at Systembolaget. Prices were quite high, Cantillon Geueze 37,5 cl bottle was 7.06 EUR.
Very central location in Helsinki.

Place rating #500! Alko Helsinki Arkadia is probably one of the largest and most central outposts of the state-run booze monopoly. Inside it is clean and almost clinical. Selection seems pretty decent, but this is the only Alko store I visited on my trip, so it is difficult to compare. Good selection Finnish and world-wide microbrews. Seems like there a few one-off brews for the Alko chain. There are a few ice-ciders available, which although expensive are not overly so in comparison to other countries. I headed straight for the fridge to stock up on Sahti’s! Then I pretty much got boosted on them. I suppose this is THE place to go for take-away beer in Helsinki. Alright.
