72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 UDBeernut (92) Near Buffalo, New York | June 16, 2012 Dinner with wife. Decent list of beers, but not really sure whats on tap if not in line of sight of the taps. Plenty of tables available. Menu is al carte sandwhiches, burgers, and salads. Food is a bit pricey. I had the smoked turkey pannini and it was tasty. The house IPA is a weak attempt. Overall a cool atmosphere in Buffalo’s ecclectic (wierd) allentown neighborhood. I should be back at somepoint in my travels. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 frylock (76) Atlanta, Georgia | June 2, 2012 Fun bar in the very hipster filled Allentown neighborhood. Solid selection of bottles and a few good taps. Nothing mind blowing, but solid. Not really a place to geek out at, but if your out drinking in Allentown its a great place to stop in for a few. Never eaten here but I hear good things. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 swoopjones (230) Buffalo, New York | July 21, 2011 great bar, great vibe, lots of live music, old school dj on Saturday. avoid saturdays if you dont like crowds. 4 taps usually solid, rare vos + 3 others. Food is very good & reasonably priced. Pretty solid bottle list: european & american micros. Great bar above average beer selection | 68 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 valgalder (14) Buffalo, New York | April 22, 2011 Place gets way too busy and crowded where it’s not very comfortable because it’s so small. Only 4 taps, but they generally have a good Ommegang or two at least. Bottle selection is good. Food is pretty good, although menu is small. Service can be hit or miss, but generally good. There is a short bottle list that is also pretty well-chosen. I didn’t try the food but people seemed to be enjoying it. It was very busy and incredibly packed. More hipsters than Williamsburg - it’s a decent spot, but it’s not really a beer place per se. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 BeerBelcher (134) Columbus, Ohio | January 4, 2009 This is a pretty cool place. Allen Street seemed to me (an outsider) a little higher end and artsier than other joints in Buffalo that were far more dive-like. Cozy dim lighting, soft colors, and art on the walls. There were a few tables with a small bar. The selection was the best I saw in Buffalo, with a handful of taps which featured both crafts and imports (Harpoon and Duvel were on-tap) and an extensive bottle list with some nice options there also. Service was OK...a goatee-d bartender who insisted on calling me "Buddy"...incessantly. Oh well, I guess it’s better than "Bro" (as in Don’t tase me bro!’). I had a Pile Driver IPA on draft (the house beer), which was OK, and the bartender couldn’t really answer my questions about it (such as who brewed it). The food menu looked awesome...sandwiches, salads, a cheeseplate, etc. If I was not full of wings from the Anchor Bar, I would’ve loved to eat here. Nicer, semi-trendy in an earthier sort of way (typical for Allen Street). It kind of sucked that they only had three taps but the bottles were all worth drinking. Lots from Unibroue, some Caracole, Salvator, Ommegang. Nice little place. Just a short walk from Prespa and Colter Bay. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 rudolf (100) Buffalo, New York | May 16, 2005 I miss living down the street from this place. Taps are kind of boring (they’ll probably have Flying Bison.. but you can get that most places in town) but the bottles shine. Saxo, Unibroue, Ommegang, some british bitters, Duvel, Southern Tier, Lake Placid and more. Last time I went they had Terrible and 2004 as well (750s.) Food is great but the menu is small. Constantly rotating special dishes. Mmm. |
