There seems to be a mixed camp with the Alpine Brewpub. One one hand you have people who love the beer and either loved the food, or are at least excited to try something else on the menu. Then you have bitter people named Collen who complain about the ambiance of a brewpub located in the sticks, and shit on it without eating their food. And lets be honest, dinging this place because they have a few attractive women working here (who are all actually very nice and know their shit when it comes to beer) probably says a lot more about the person reviewing it, rather than the establishment itself. For me, it doesn’t get much better. The beer is world class, no question about it. I was very impressed with the BBQ. The cook came out and talked to us for a bit (it was a slower time of the day) and told us his story of how he ended up at Alpine, and his theories on BBQ. Some of the best pulled pork and brisket I have had, tons of flavor in the meat, and barely any sauce at all. And all of the sides were great (i noticed last time i was their they started putting mustard in the potato salad, C’mon Son! get that mustard outta there). The service is always great, the patrons around you are always friendly and chiming in, and it’s always clean (which I care a lot more about than how it was decorated). Oh, and their chipotle ranch sauce, hot damn it’s good. I could choke down a bag full of mashed up assholes if it was covered in that stuff.

This is a great place for all the hopheads. It’s a small restaurant with great food. The service is always friendly, but the drive Sucks.

Make sure to order the fried pickles, breaded green beans! Taco Tuesday is the best too! I think the beer speaks for itself. It’s all good.

Showed up on a Thursday around 3pm. parked right in front and mistakenly walked into the bottle shop place as opposed to the pub/grill. Walked into the correct place grabbed 1 of the 8 bar stools a few other patrons littered among the tables, I ordered a sampler of 6 beers and asked about how spicy the wings were, I was informed they are quite hot so I passed and went with the sliders, really tasty and their fries were great.. After 6 samples and lunch I was still hungry I ordered another lunch, grilled cheese and cole slaw this time, Add bacon to the grilled cheese it was awesome, good gouda. Cole slaw a bit dry. Beers are awesome, a woman walked in with a business suit on, and ordered a sampler as well then promptly planted her face in a laptop, seemed a bit out of place in Alpine.. The town is awesome and the drive isnt bad for all the whiners in SD who complain about.

Small little bar that you could drive past and wouldnt even know it existed. Definetely feels like a local bar but everyone from bartenders to customers are friendly and knowledgable about beer. Only a dozen or so bar stools and some inside/outside seating. Really chill atmosphere inside.... Food is excellent for a being a pub/bar. Get the wings... you wont be dissapointed. Beer wise they have their regular line up which is great. I will never get tired of Nelson or Duet. Their hoppy beers are argueably the most easy drinking IPAs in the world. They had couple seasonal beers and one guest tap on also a nice wine selection available. The bathroom is outside and up the hill which cracks me up but some how is still cool. Parking is fairly easy but only a couple spots. Overall: Probably the coolest place in San Diego and well worth a short drive out to visit. Due your self a favor and spent the night at a hotel in town so you can enjoy Alpine all night long!

Is quite far from San Diego but still worthwhile to visit. Was here 2006. The brewery at this time was still very manual. The lady serving us was very nice. Have to go back there soon.

A really "craft" beer environment, the rustic ambience helps you appreciate more the excellent quality of beers. Flavored beer amazing, crazy hoppiness for their IPAs, you MUST go there and visit the place if you are around.

I have wanted to come here for a long time, and finally got my chance. Pretty busy on a Tuesday night, but I found a spot at the bar. When I was here they had 12 unique beers on tap, with a few that had tapped out prior to my visit. I sampled them all, washed down with some surprisingly good food - smoked wings and tacos. Service is pretty good, ambiance is what it is, but it is hard to argue with the quality of fresh Alpine IPA’s.

First visited in August 2010 with morbidobesitycantsail.

Definitely out of the way, which makes me wonder if this is the reason it’s taken them this long to get this big. The place is on a little 2 lane road in what looks like an old western kind of town. The town is only on one side of the road and a couple the buildings have the raised wooden sidewalk/walkway. I half expected to see a hitching post out front. Not surprisingly the bathroom is it’s own little building/hut out back, an outhouse if you will.

Inside the pub is quite relaxing and enjoyable. Lots of taps to choose from, very good food, and all the hops you can handle. Even if you don’t like any of their other beers you can’t help but love things like Exponential Hoppiness, Pure Hoppiness, OBriens IPA, Hoppy Birthday, Nelson, etc. And Great is pretty good when fresh. They occasionally put on a keg of the 05 version but it’s turning to cardboard at this point.

The bartenders were very nice and helpful in answering questions, providing samples, and even making suggestions.

Would go back again if brewery hopping in that region.

Two different places are combined in the database, the brewpub next door and the actual brewery where you can buy bottles and growlers to go as well as t-shirts, stickers, etc. The drive is about 25 minutes from San Diego along beautiful scenery so don’t let its strange location deter you from visiting. Opening hours are awesome for the brewpub. They had only house beers on tap, and a lot of them. 15-16 with many one-offs and non-bottled varieties. Higher quality, most famous for their IPAs but the pumpkin porter was phenomenal. Food is very good, asked the server to make a recommendation and she said the veggies wrap modified a little bit from what was on the menu and it rocked: cucumber, balsamic, mushroom, feta in crispy burrito wrap cut in half. Stewed spicy green beans were a hit, country style. The whole diner is very Southwestern almost Wild West like- tacky diner decoration, saloon looking exterior, almost exclusively locals eating and drinking here and regulars at that. All on first name basis with the staff. I was allowed to just walk out without paying or leaving collateral to get bottles next door at the actual brewery about 35 feet away. Came back, had another beer and paid. Very courteous, trusting, knowledgeable staff. Extremely relaxed and homely feel. Prices were not "cheap" but not out of whack either. I’m glad to have visited and will be back in the future. A fun sidetrip from San Diego.

This was our first stop on an AOPD meeting in San Diego. The small brwpub was easy to find on Alpine’s main drag. We were in the oveflow dirt parking in the rear. Our server was Danielle. She was very helpful with beer selections and the food. The pulled pork was outstanding. Very flavorful and a good value. The TV’s were all on NASCAR no college football. This is a small place and as we were leaving there was a line waiting. This is worthy stop for beer and food.
