Large modern gastro-pub with a nice terrace, run by a famous German chef. The place seems quite trendy. More focused on the food menu with some German classic dishes revisited by their skilled cooks. They also bake their own bread. For beers, they do have some nice local crafts as well as a few popular European ones, they also serve their own brews which are quite average for the moment. Nice dinner place even though a bit pricey by local standards.

Located in one of the few charming district of Hamburg, just accross the courtyard from the Craft Beer Shop, this brewpub offers the visitor to the city an excellent opportunity to taste a uniquely vast selection of beers (by German standards), from several labels of Ratsherrn to Schneider Aventinus on tap, to some bottle lambics. All this to be accompanied by tasty, decent German food. served by very friendly staff and enjoyed in a welcoming interior (the place has both modern wooden benches and cozy nooks and crannies, e.g. by a fireplace). Definitely recommendable. I will be back whenever I am in Hamburg again.

Modern, slick and urban with a rustic surface. Bakery, brewery, gastro-pub just next to their own very good beershop. Quite a decent selection on tap, a mix of the brewpubs own beer and some foreign ones, like Rogue Yellow Snow and To Øl Yeasus Christua. Fine selection of bottles, too, with an ok range of German craft beer from other breweries. Ok food. Quite expensive for German pub, butas a Dane i don’t mind. A sample of five house-beer are available.

A new modern trendy German Craft Beer BrewPub. Fantastic selection of tap & bottled beers - not just German but other countries as well. Helpful service. Quiet at lunchtime but busy in evenings. Expensive. I really like this place. Hope to return to sample more beers & food. A must visit for Hamburg beer tourists.

Visited July 2013. Beerwise, this p lace was a welcome relief to the Hamburg brewpubs we visited just before. They have the beers of the neighboring Ratsherrn brewery on draught which are quite good. (They have hired an American brewer recently to make their beer line-up more interesting). There is a beer shop with a great range for Germany and a lot of that beer has spilled over onto the menu of the bar/restaurant. There was a barbeque grill cooking wurst and I tried some: pretty good. Service could be quicker.

This place is very promising! Placed in Hamburg’s Sternchanze neighborhood that is quickly moving away from it’s industrial past. Altes Mädchen was very busy when visited a hot Thursday afternoon - both the biergarten and inside. Far more modern and stylish than I have ever have seen in Germany. Very spacious - big seating area both inside and outside. Younger crowd than the more traditional bars and biergartens. Selection on tap embraces both traditional German styles, Weizen,, Zwickel, Pilsener etc. but also more modern styles as IPA, IIPA etc. Food was excellent - the roastbeef was outstanding! On site bakery. Pricy by German standards - you pay for quality. Very busy, friendly and talkative staff I got free samples. Other German breweries, bars should watch Altes Mädchen carefully - this is the future for German brewing - it´s urban, stylish, modern - still with a personality and German heritage. Highly recommended when in Hamburg.

This fantastic establishment is proof the Germans are finally embracing modern ultra tasty brews. And it is the first place I have seen in Germany with so many imports, Belgian Trappists, Brew Dog, USA beers. Not to mention the superb Ratskeller beers and guest beers from other German micro breweries. Prices are high but so is the quality and the former market hall has been done up with taste. Food good quality but expensive. I will only visit here again for drinking. A huge step forwards for Hamburg, prost!

This is the kind of place which feels like an old acquaintance, allthoug it is newly opened.
Easy acces from the Sternchanze Metro and train station, cross under the railway line towards a industrial area, and turn right immediately. More of a restaurant, with a big menu with some good german pub grub and also some finer dinings. Big local, high ceilings, industrial feeling, cosy interior, with lots of intimate seating groups. Also nice patio where you can be seated, and just 15 mtrs from their good bottle shop.Main thing here is their own beers, Ratsherrn, fresh on tap, you can have a beer sampler with 5 differn beers, there is also some different German micros on tap as well as bottled ones.

Newly-opened place located in a former meat market hall, right next to the new Ratsherrn brewery in a quickly gentrifying neighborhood. Very cool-looking interior. Good food - not cheap, though probably appropriately priced. The best thing about Altes Mädchen, however, is the excellent selection of beers - at least by German standards. They have their three regular beers and their Zwickel on tap, of course, but also some guest beers (among them the delicious and rare Fritz Imperial IPA) and lots of German and foreign bottled beers, mostly well-chosen. Not cheap, of course, but what can you expect...
Service is very friendly, but rather slow or inattentive, since the place is packed in the early evenings. Thus, it can be difficult to find a place to sit. Anyway, this is a must for any beer-aficionado living in or traveling through Hamburg, and will hopefully breed a lot off beer-geek recruits ;-)

Very, very nice looking place! Brand new and a super cool interior. Also the largest selection of beer in Hamburg, both bottles and taps, or so I think at least. Mostly their own beers from Ratsherrn on tap, but also some guest stuff, plus lots of different international beer in the fridges. Staff were kind of friendly, some more than others. Nice place nevertheless, and a must if you’re in Hamburg.
